Stefan Dohr

Stefan Dohr (born September 3, 1965 in Münster ) is a German horn player .

Stefan Dohr studied in Essen and Cologne before he became principal horn in the Frankfurt Opera House and Museum Orchestra at the age of 19 . This was followed by engagements with the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival , the Orchester Philharmonique de Nice and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin . Stefan Dohr has been principal horn with the Berliner Philharmoniker since 1993 . He is also a lecturer and board member of the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic .

In addition to his work as an orchestral musician, he also makes music with numerous chamber ensembles, including the Ensemble Modern and the Ensemble Wien-Berlin, in the Albert Schweitzer Octet.

As a soloist , he worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim , Bernard Haitink , Christian Thielemann , Ingo Metzmacher and Daniel Harding as well as with Claudio Abbado , who also invited him to the Lucerne Festival Orchestra as solo horn player.

In addition to the classical and romantic horn concertos by Mozart , Joseph Haydn and Richard Strauss, he is also interested in the contemporary works of György Ligeti , Oliver Knussen and Volker David Kirchner . In March 2008 he premiered the Horn Concerto written for him by Herbert Willi at the Wiener Musikverein .

Another focus is chamber music, which he not only cultivates with his colleagues from the Berliner Philharmoniker in various ensembles, but also as a chamber music partner of Maurizio Pollini , Lars Vogt , Kolja Blacher , Ian Bostridge and others, as well as a member of the Vienna-Berlin ensemble, made up of soloists from the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

He is a welcome guest at various chamber music festivals, was a visiting professor at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music and works as a teacher at the Herbert von Karajan Academy as well as in international master classes .

In July 2007 “Opera” was released, a CD with operatic paraphrases that Stefan Dohr recorded with his colleagues from the Philharmonic horn group. Stefan Dohr made a recording with the horn concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as complements and additions to Mozart's unfinished concert KV 412/514 (386b) by Franz Xaver Süßmayr , Nino Rota and Robert D. Levin for the Camerata label. In autumn 2011 the CD "FOUR CORNERS!" Was released, which Stefan Dohr recorded with horn colleagues from the Philharmonic.
