Ian Bostridge , CBE (born December 25, 1964 in London ) is a British opera singer ( tenor ) who also acts as a lieder singer .

Life

education

The working-class son Ian Bostridge studied history and philosophy at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and after receiving his doctorate on witchcraft (1990) initially worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Corpus Christi College (Oxford) . Professionally, he turned to singing in 1992. He made his debut at Wigmore Hall in 1993.

Honors

  • In 2004 Ian Bostridge was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to music .
  • In 2013 he received the ECHO Klassik for Opera Recording of the Year (Opera of the 20th / 21st century).
  • In 2014 he was again awarded the ECHO Klassik in the solo recording of the year category (singing) .
  • In 2015, Bostridges Schubert's Winter Journey: Anatomy of an Obsession was awarded the Duff Cooper Prize .
