Recital

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A recital (English, [ rɪˈsaɪ̯tl̩ ]; less commonly Germanized recital [ ʀet͡siˈtaːl ]) is a concert in which a single artist is the focus, with two options:

  • The concert is performed by a single soloist , possibly with piano accompaniment.
  • Only works by a specific composer will be performed at the concert .

The word is derived from the English verb recite ("to present publicly"), which goes back to the Latin recitare via French réciter .

A piano recital is performed by a pianist . In recitals by violinists , flutists or singers, the soloist is usually accompanied on the piano . If the concert takes place in the evening, one speaks of a piano recital for pianists and a song recital for singers .
