The VERA sludge incineration is a sludge incineration plant in Hamburg. It uses the residues ( digester gas , sewage sludge ) that arise at the Hamburg main sewage treatment plant on the Köhlbrand to generate electricity. Hamburger Stadtentwässerung (HSE) is the purchaser of electricity and heat .
The operator is VERA Klärschlammverbrnung GmbH, 60 percent of which has been owned by Hamburger Stadtentwässerung since 2015 and Remondis Aqua GmbH & Co KG to 40 percent . The name was from Ve rwertungsanlage for R ückstände from the A formed bwasserbehandlung.
For the incineration of the dried sewage sludge, the screenings, the digester gases and the exhaust air, three independent combustion lines with fluidized bed combustion are available. In a combined gas and steam turbine process, around 70 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 134,000 tons of process steam are generated per year at VERA (2013). |
