Zsigmond Szathmáry
Zsigmond Szathmáry (born April 28, 1939 in Hódmezővásárhely ) is a Hungarian organist , pianist , composer and conductor .
Life
Szathmáry studied organ and composition in Budapest , Frankfurt am Main and Vienna . In 1960 he won first prize in the Budapest Organ Competition. After working as an organist in Hamburg (including Wellingsbüttel ) and at the Bremen Cathedral, as well as teaching in Lübeck and Hanover , he became professor for organ at the State University of Music in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1978 . He is also visiting professor in Osaka and titular organist at Sankt Peter in Cologne. He is a member of the Freiburg composers interest group.
Honors
- In 1973 he became a member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg .
- In 1987 he received the "Liszt Plaque" from the National Liszt Commemoration Committee (A Magyar Köztársaság Liszt Ferenc Emlékbizottsága) and the "Pro Artibus Artisjus Plaque".
- In 2009 he was accepted as an honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences .
