Krzysztof Węgrzyn
Krzysztof Węgrzyn (born September 21, 1953 in Gdańsk in Poland ) is a Polish musician, violinist , professor for violin and vice-president of art at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH). He plays a Domenico Montagnana violin .
Life
Krzysztof Węgrzyn, born in Gdańsk in 1953, initially studied in Warsaw at the then music academy "Fredéric Chopin" with Zenon Brzewski and Irina Dubiska . After teaching in Freiburg im Breisgau with Wolfgang Marschner, he worked as a fellow of the New York- based BP Johnson Foundation with Yfrah Neaman in London . He also received further “decisive artistic impulses” in his work with Dorothy DeLay .
In his concerts in various countries, Węgrzyn dealt not only with the standard repertoire but also with works by contemporary composers such as Witold Lutosławski , György Ligeti , Luigi Nono , Alfred Schnittke , Arvo Pärt and Krzysztof Penderecki .
On January 1, 1984 Węgrzyn was appointed to Hanover to work there alternately through the newly created position of first concertmaster of the Lower Saxony State Orchestra .
In 1993 Krzysztof Węgrzyn took over a professorship for string instruments and in particular for violin at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Many of his students subsequently became winners of international competitions as well as members of leading German orchestras.
Węgrzyn regularly led master classes on different continents, including at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole , at the Juilliard School , during the Aspen Music Festival or the Holland Music Sessions , the Bowdoin Music Festival , at the Keshett Eilon , at the Ishikawa Music Academy in Seoul , Shanghai and Tokyo . In addition, Węgrzyn has been appointed to numerous international juries, including competitions for music by Tchaikovsky in Moscow , Kreisler in Vienna , Paganini in Genoa , a recording by ARD in Munich or to Sendai in Japan . In addition, Węgrzyn, who has long been involved in chamber music, co-founded the New Warsaw Piano Quintet .
From 1995 to 2007 Krzysztof Węgrzyn directed the International Gdansk Music Seminar and the Gdansk Spring Music Festival.
In addition to his work at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, Węgrzyn was “future-oriented and networking” for music festivals in Goslar and Braunlage . He also excelled in founding the Life Music Now association , which combines promoting young musicians with social projects.
Last but not least, Węgrzyn initiated the International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hanover, dedicated to the violinist Joseph Joachim , and took over its artistic direction. For his commitment to this competition, Krzysztof Węgrzyn was awarded the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit by the Lower Saxony Minister of Education, Björn Thümler, on November 19, 2018 . According to the minister, Krzysztof Węgrzyn had a lasting impact on Lower Saxony's musical landscape and its international reputation.
