Wulf Konold

Wulf Konold (born June 29, 1946 in Langenau near Ulm ; † June 24, 2010 in Munich ) was a German musicologist , dramaturge and artistic director .

Life

Konold studied musicology , German literature and history at the University of Kiel from 1966 to 1973 as well as viola , composition and conducting at the Lübeck University of Music . After receiving his doctorate in 1974 with Kurt Gudewill on "Secular Cantatas in the 20th Century", he became a research assistant at the University of Kiel. From 1975 to 1978 he was department head for serious music at Saarländischer Rundfunk . From 1978 he was chief dramaturge at the Nuremberg Opera House , from 1982 dramaturge and artistic advisor at the Hanover State Opera and from 1988 chief dramaturge at the Hamburg State Opera , where he also directed. From 1996 to 2008 he was general manager and opera director of the Nuremberg Municipal Theaters (since 2003 the Nuremberg State Theater ). In addition, from 2005 to 2009 he was artistic director of the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival .

In 1982 he founded the Ensemble Musica Viva Hannover, and from 1989 to 1996 he directed the Kiel Chamber Orchestra. As a musicologist, he took on teaching positions at the Saarland University , the Saar University of Music , the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg , the Hanover University of Music and Theater (as a professor), the University of Hamburg , the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart . In 2001 he was appointed honorary professor. Most recently he taught at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Wulf Konold was the brother of the stage and costume designer Dietlind Konold . He left two sons and a daughter and died of cancer .
