Ernst Marow
Ernst Marow (born April 7, 1934 in Königsberg , Neumark ; † May 31, 2018 in Kronshagen near Kiel ) was a German painter and graphic artist .
Life
One year after the National Socialists came to power , Ernst Marow was born in Königsberg, Neumark, the first of five children of a master stove fitter and his wife. The family left their hometown on February 1, 1945, which was almost completely destroyed four days later. After the traumatic experience of fleeing in constant danger of death, the family finally came to Ölsburg near Peine .
In 1954, Ernst Marow passed his Abitur and in the following year studied first at the Werkkunstschule Hannover and from 1956 to 1959 at the College of Fine Arts in Berlin with Heinrich Graf Luckner , Ludwig Gabriel Schrieber and Gerhard Fietz . Ernst Marow's fellow students at the Berlin University of Fine Arts included u. a. Ingo Insterburg .
Ernst Marow's work was included in the " Lower Saxony artist database and estate archive ".

painting
Although the art business had meanwhile completely turned away from figurative workers and the realists, Ernst Marow made the final break with his academic training and with the expectations of the scene in the mid-1960s. After he had painted abstract until 1969, he discarded his early works, in an act of liberation destroyed all the drawings and pictures he had made up until then and turned to a realistic style of painting .
The artist created a "new reality" from the various components - primarily from nature such as trees or stones, but also in portraits. In his work, it was not about the detailed reproduction of the real, rather he created a context of the visible and the thinkable through the composition of different elements, which extends to the limits of the dream without exceeding them like the surrealists . Wherever Ernst Marow enlarged sections of grass, clods of earth or evidence of human presence and brought them into the foreground of the picture, the perspective and proportion shift. The small is transformed into the monumental, the seemingly insignificant into the essential. It was Ernst Marow's effort to determine reality in order to make an “other level of reality” visible in the reality of the “imago”, the image.
Graphics
In addition to painting, the focus of his work was graphics. In the years 2000–2014, Marow's major graphic work For Odysseus, 107 etchings on the Odyssey , was created, which in 2014 was added to the graphic collection of the Albertina (Vienna) . In the language of the picture, Ernst Marow told his version of the famous model, in which he assigned roles to people from his environment as well as himself.
