Scars on Broadway is an American rock band . In addition to the two System-of-a-Down members Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan, it consists of Franky Perez, Danny Shamoun and Dominic Cifarelli from Pulse Ultra . Their debut album, titled after the band name, was released on August 1, 2008 in Germany. Malakian doesn't see Scars on Broadway as a side project.

In 2003 Daron Malakian recorded the demo Ghetto Blaster Rehearsals with Casey Chaos, Greg Kelso and Zach Hill under the project name "Scars on Broadway".
Independently of that, today's band Scars on Broadway was founded in 2006 by Daron Malakian. The name of the group (dt .: Scars on Broadway ) came about from swastika symbols, which were located at the foot of the parking lights on Broadway Street in Glendale (Malakian's birthplace). These symbols were considered to decorate the park lights and were not, like the National Socialist symbol, inclined "towards the top". For Malakian, however, there was something mysterious about these symbols. He and a friend were talking about these symbols while going to a hockey game and the friend said, "Yeah, those swastikas on Broadway". Malakian then came up with the idea of calling his band not "Swastikas on Broadway", but "Scars on Broadway". At the end of 2006 Malakian asked his old bandmate John Dolmayan if he would like to join the band and the latter agreed.
After System of a Down took an artistic hiatus in 2006, Daron Malakian devoted himself to the resurgence of the band and put them together again. As with System of a Down, John Dolmayan is also the drummer for Scars on Broadway. Furthermore, Scars on Broadway is supported by guitarist and background singer Franky Perez, keyboardist Danny Shamoun, and bassist Dominic Cifarelli. In September 2007 the band recorded their debut album with this line-up. Similar to System of a Down, the band thematizes rather dark topics. A central motif is the emotional overload that an individual is exposed to in the age of globalization and mass media .
On March 28, 2008, the first single They Say was released . The self-titled debut album was released on July 29th on Interscope Records . On June 28, 2008, the video clip for the single They Say appeared on the band's official website . The band had their first live appearance on April 11, 2008, at "Whiskey A Go Go", a nightclub in West Hollywood (Los Angeles, California). They first stepped on German soil at the Luxor in Cologne on June 27, 2008.
On February 24, 2009, the bassist of the band Dominic Cifarelli announced in an interview that the band had split up. The tour in progress at the time has been completely canceled. On May 2, 2010, however, the band appeared again in full in a club in Los Angeles. A month later, another appearance in Los Angeles was announced on the official homepage. On July 29th 2010 the band released the new song Fucking and made it available for free download.
Since February 24, 2012 an excerpt from the new song "Guns Are Loaded" can be heard on the official homepage.
On April 16, 2018, Malakian announced in a Facebook post a new single release of a second album by Scars on Broadway . In addition, Malakian announced a renaming of the band in Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway and justified this with the fact that Scars on Broadway is reassembled from album to album. To make this clear, Malakian - in contrast to the other future band members - put his name at the beginning of Scars on Broadway .
