Circa Survive is a progressive rock band from Philadelphia ( United States ). It was founded in 2004 by Anthony Green (formerly the singer of Saosin ), Nick Beard (formerly Taken ), Steve Clifford, Brendan Ekstrom and Colin Frangicetto (both formerly This Day Forward ).

Band history

In 2004, Anthony Green, then a permanent member of Saosin , in which several record companies had already expressed their interest, traveled to Philadelphia for a dentist appointment . He also visited his friend Colin Frangicetto and made music with him. On his return trip to California there was a longer stay in Phoenix , where he made the decision to leave Saosin and start a formation with Frangicetto. Reasons for this were on the one hand musical as well as personal differences: Green found no musical fulfillment in the more metal- oriented music of Saosin, and, according to his own opinion, he was reluctant to have the attitude of his fellow musicians to make music with the ulterior motive of wealth and success.

In 2005 their debut album Juturna was released by Equal Vision Records ( Cargo Records distribution). The name of the album is derived from the Roman goddess Juturna , who, as the goddess of wells and springs, is a symbol of a new beginning, just as the album was for the five musicians. Lyrically there are many references to the film Forget mine not! with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet , who was very preoccupied and shaped Anthony Green at the time, but one cannot say that Juturna would be a concept album. However, the last song on the album, "Meet me in Montauk", most likely refers to the scene in the film in which Carry heads headlong to Montauk. After that, the band played part of the Warped Tour and a European tour in support of Thrice and Coheed and Cambria . On January 8, 2007, the recordings for the second album began in the Salad Days studio with Brian McTernan . On Letting Go was released in America on May 29, 2007.
