The 100,000 Mark Show was a game show on the private broadcaster RTL , which was broadcast from 1993 to 1998 under the moderation of Ulla Kock am Brink. Later, the former magic world champion Franklin moderated the show until it was discontinued in 2000. In 2008 there was a new edition under the title The 100,000 Euro Show , consisting of a regular program and a celebrity special.

General

The show was moderated by Ulla Kock am Brink (until 1998), later by Franklin . The aim was to win 100,000 DM . It was the first TV show where you could win a sum of this magnitude from a single show. It was criticized that this amount was too high.

The show was produced by Endemol in Cologne , the earlier episodes were shot in Hilversum in the Netherlands.

Original show schedule

Preliminary round

In each broadcast, four couples competed against each other. First, an obstacle course had to be overcome. The game ended as soon as the third pair crossed the finish line. The couple who did not finish the course or were the last to be eliminated.

Elimination round

Three pairs left

The three remaining couples played other games that could raise money. As the show progressed, the couple who had raised the lowest amount of money at the time were next eliminated. This eliminated couple then played for a consolation prize in the form of a cash prize. In this game, further small prisms, which differed in size and weight, were embedded in a large prism with a pentagon as a base. Each of the prisms contained a different amount of money, one also a rivet. One of the partners then had to pull out a prism without hitting the wall.

Two pairs left

The other two couples continued to play for money. The third couple to drop out had the chance to win a car. In the years 1993 to 1998 there were various Ford models to be won, from 1998 to 2000 there were Opel models. In the early episodes there was a car and four possible keys, with the couple playing away wrong keys. The game was slightly changed in the later episodes. Then there were four possible cars and two possible keys. Here the couple could also play away fake cars.

Final round

The last pair made it to the finals. The ultimate goal here was to open the safe with the 100,000 marks (the safe was just a backdrop to increase the drama). There were also ten cylinders , each of which contained a combination of numbers, only one of which was the correct code. In three previous games, the couple had the opportunity to ideally play away all the wrong cylinders.

Final game 1

The first of the games was different in each episode, but it was always very action-packed and was the action highlight of the show.

The hot line

The second final game was The Hot Line . One of the partners had to stand on a kind of forklift truck, which the other steered, and drive a ring through the wire without touching it. In the event of contact, a beep was heard and the couple had to return to a security point. There have been slight changes over the years, for example the forklift has been replaced by a bed hanging from the studio ceiling in which the candidates had to lie on their stomachs. In 1998 the hot wire was changed slightly again. Then the couple had to maneuver through two wires with a pole, which brought the third dimension into play. In addition, the rod contained a smoke effect that came about when it was touched.

Water column

The third final game was the water column. One of the two players had to dive into a transparent cylinder filled with water, while the partner had to answer knowledge questions. Once the player was allowed to emerge in the water to take a breather for 30 seconds (after a change later only 15 seconds) and to take another breath to dive.

safe

One of the remaining cylinders had to be selected and the combination of numbers entered using a keyboard that was on a pedestal that looked like a large screw. Then a futuristic, mechanical-sounding computer voice, spoken by the voice-over of the show, Andreas Hoffmann-Sinnhuber, said: “The timer is activated! The code you entered is ... ”After a dramatic pause of a few seconds,“ correct ”or“ wrong ”followed. The money for the main prize was in the form of banknotes of various sizes in a transparent case. Regardless of whether the couple had won or lost, they also received the money they had previously earned (around ten thousand marks). It could happen that the couple that won the car ended up making a higher profit than the finalists if they couldn't open the safe.

Remodeling

  • The 1996 season included a number of major changes as one tried to build on the success of the American Gladiators show . So there was no obstacle course this season, but Die Planke as the first game in which six pairs competed and three were eliminated. Due to moderate success, they returned to the old concept after a season.
  • A jackpot was introduced in the later episodes . If the safe was not opened, the following show played for 200,000 marks. The record profit of a couple was over 400,000 marks.
  • The car game has been changed slightly. Initially, one of four keys was correct for an existing car. Later there were two keys that each fit one of four cars. However, the chance of winning did not change and was 25%.
  • The breather between the two periods of diving in the water column was reduced from an initial 30 to 15 seconds.
  • Freshwater ornamental fish were in the water column for the last few years of the show.
  • In the course of time, a telephone game was set up for spectators, where they could bet on one of the cylinders.

The 100,000 euro show

At a press conference on July 18, 2008, RTL announced that the program would initially receive two new episodes in autumn 2008 under the title Die 100,000 Euro Show with a revised concept: a regular edition and a celebrity special. The show was recorded in the MMC Coloneum Studio 53 in Cologne and moderated by Inka Bause .

In the first broadcast on September 20, 2008 at 8:15 pm, five couples competed against each other, but they did not have to form a civil partnership and could consist of two members of the same sex. The game was no longer played for money as points, but every game was a qualifying game. In the final it was therefore about 100,000 euros or nothing. However, the couple previously had the opportunity to bring back an already eliminated pair and then play for 200,000 euros. This option was not drawn: the couple won the 100,000 euros.

In the celebrity special on December 6, 2008, the following couples competed against each other: Caroline Beil and Ralf Möller , Isabel Edvardsson and Cindy from Marzahn , Lucy Diakovska and Fady Maalouf , Tanja Szewczenko and Matthias Steiner as well as Brigitte Nielsen and André Dietz . The order listed here corresponds to that of the departure. Ralf Möller injured himself in the first game so that he could not continue playing. In the final the rules were changed again a bit. Instead of getting a pair back and being able to play for 200,000 euros, there were now three bonus games in which the profit could be topped up. After Brigitte Nielsen and André Dietz failed to open the safe, Inka Bause announced that they would still receive the 85,000 euros they had won in the bonus rounds. In general, the rules in the finals were not interpreted very strictly as the money was donated to a charity. Arthur Abraham also took part in a game : Since he was drawn as a “celebrity joker”, he had to go into a water column with caimans .
