Ilka Bessin [bɛˈsiːn] (born November 18, 1971 in Luckenwalde ) is a German stand-up comedian who invented the fictional character Cindy from Marzahn in 2000 and embodied this role in numerous stage and television appearances until 2016.

life and career

Ilka Bessin was born in Luckenwalde as the daughter of a truck driver and a seamstress. She has an older sister. After graduating from school, Bessin first completed an apprenticeship as a cook in the large kitchen of VEB Wälzlagerwerk Luckenwalde from 1988 to 1990 . Bessin lost her job as a cook in 1990 at the time of the turnaround . Then Bessin did a retraining as a hotel manager. She worked as a waitress in a restaurant where she later became the manager. She worked as a waitress at Planet Hollywood in Berlin, as an extras supervisor, later as an entertainer on a cruise ship, and was unemployed for four years after her return to Berlin .

In the early 2000s, Bessin developed the fictional character Cindy from Marzahn , an overweight long-term unemployed from Berlin-Marzahn who has been receiving unemployment benefit II for a long time . She gave the figure, which is characterized by her low chances in the job market and her failures with men, a fatalistic to sarcastic view of the things in life. In addition, the figure Cindy cultivated an ironic , doomed “princess image” with pink clothes and a diadem . In 2002 she had a guest appearance in episode 212 of the television series Behind Bars . In 2004, Bessin wanted to apply to be a waitress in the Berlin Live Club of the Quatsch Comedy Club , but got on the phone with the person who booked the stage talent. He invited her to join the Quatsch talent factory . She did it and in 2005 won the annual finals of the "Quatsch Talentschmiede", which was her first success as a comedian.

In the fifth season of the comedy series Schillerstraße , Ilka Bessin played the role of the landlady Ilka from the beginning of 2009 to April 2009. Between 2009 and 2012, Bessin had its own weekly show on RTL TV with the title Cindy from Marzahn & The Young Wilders , which was recorded in Halle (Saale) in the Steintor-Varieté . In this show she acts as a hostess. There are four seasons of the series. In March 2011, RTL broadcast Bessin's live program Not every prince comes uff'm horse , which was recorded in Cottbus . Due to the demand and the success, the tour was extended until February 2012, which meant that it lasted more than two years and included exactly 200 performances. At the end of 2011, Bessin was on the jury of the RTL television program Comedy Grand Prix , which promoted young talent in the field of comedy.

In the first of Markus Lanz moderated Wetten, dass ..? Broadcast on October 6, 2012, the character Cindy from Marzahn appeared as Lanz's assistant. Her multiple changes of clothes were an allusion to Michelle Hunziker , who bet with Thomas Gottschalk before his departure , that ..? moderated. On December 22, 2012, the New York Times dedicated an article to Ilka Bessin in its Saturday edition. From December 2012 to June 2013, Bessin was again Markus Lanz's assistant at Wetten, dass ..? In June 2013, Bessin's withdrawal from Wetten, dass ..? known. She justified her decision with too little time “because of various new TV projects” and her current tour. In July 2013 she switched from RTL to Sat.1 . There she presented the show Promi Big Brother together with Oliver Pocher in September 2013 . During the second season of Celebrity Big Brother , she switched from moderation to the role of "Mother of Big Brother", in which she commented on the residents of the house. Also during the second season, she hosted a web show that was shown on the Internet after the TV broadcast.

For the animated film Cloudy with a View of Meatballs 2 , which was shown in the cinema from October 24, 2013, she spoke the German dubbing voice of the character Barb. In the summer of 2014 she started her own show on Broadway . The live tour program Pink is Bjutiful and the new stage show Schwarz Rot Pink were broadcast on Sat.1 in October 2014. In 2015, Bessin was seen in a guest role in the film The Nanny . In 2016 she made a guest appearance in the movie Elsterglanz and the key for the women's sauna .

At the beginning of July 2016, she announced in an interview with Spiegel that she would quit her fictional character Cindy from Marzahn . At the beginning of June 2016 she had her last appearance in Mannheim. In December 2016, Bessin appeared without a disguise on the television program People, Pictures, Emotions . In July 2017 she was a reporter on the topic of “Social Injustice in Germany” at Stern TV . In 2019 she hosted the show Ran an den Rasen - Das Gartenduell on RTL together with the gardening architect Bernd Franzen . In 2020 she took part in the 13th season of Let's Dance with Erich Klann . The audience voted them out of the competition in the 12th live show, so the couple took 5th place.

Ilka Bessin has been performing as a comedian under her own name since 2019.

Bessin lives in Berlin-Wilmersdorf .
