Promi Big Brother is a German reality show that has been broadcast by the television station Sat.1 since September 2013 . Model is from the United Kingdom originating television format Celebrity Big Brother . This is based on the basic concept of the television show Big Brother , the German offshoot of which was first broadcast in 2000.
The previous winners of Promi Big Brother are Jenny Elvers (2013), Aaron Troschke (2014), David Odonkor (2015), Ben Tewaag (2016), Jens Hilbert (2017), Silvia Wollny (2018), Janine Pink (2019) and Werner Hansch (2020).
The eighth season aired from August 7th to 28th, 2020.
concept
Celebrity Big Brother follows the basic idea of Big Brother in its conception . For a given period of time, several people live in a television studio set up as a living environment, the so-called "container". The daily routine is structured by the production company, which appears as the computer voice “Big Brother”. Competitions are held or tasks are given to the participants in the show.
The lives of the participants, who are referred to as celebrities in the program and in the title , are recorded around the clock by television cameras and microphones and broadcast to the public as part of live broadcasts or as a composite.
For the seventh season, the show got a new logo and a new font. The logo is no longer blue, but green.
Distribution of participants
Names of the areas | ||
---|---|---|
Season | luxurious area | poor area |
1 | no division | |
2 | Above (house) |
Downstairs (basement) |
3 | ||
4th | House | channel |
5 | Everything | Nothing |
6th | villa | Building site |
7th | Luxury camp | Tent camp |
8th | Fairytale castle | Fairytale forest |
Since the second season, the participants have been divided into two different areas: In addition to a luxurious area, there is an area in which the participants live in poor conditions. The distribution of participants can be changed through resident and audience votes, arbitrary stage directions or, since the third season, also based on the outcome of duels.
In seasons 2 to 4, an even distribution of the participants was ensured (six people per area). Since the fifth season there has often been an uneven division. For example, on day two of season six, three participants lived in the luxury area while the other nine participants had to live in the poor area.
Since the fifth season, both areas have been on the same level. In the previous three seasons there were two levels.
Nomination and victory
Since the second season, the participants have been nominating a different participant each day from the second live show to leave the house or the show. The viewers then vote by televoting a participant from the nomination list who should stay in the house or on the show. The one who got the fewest audience votes has to go. If residents leave the house voluntarily (or for other reasons), they will not move out on the corresponding number of days. After two weeks there is the finale at the end of the season, in which four of the last five remaining participants drop out. The last one remaining is the winner of the season.
In the first season, instead of a participant from the nomination list who should stay in the house or on the show, the viewers televoted a participant who should leave the house or the show. The one who got the most audience votes had to leave.
More show elements
Duel arena
Since the third season, the residents of the different areas have been competing in duels. The loser of the duel has to face consequences for himself or his living area. In the event of a tie, the residents of the more luxurious area always win. Consequences include different living conditions in the area, a change of area or nomination.
In addition to the above-mentioned duels, there have been matches since the seventh season in which the residents of the poor area compete together to earn money for the supermarket .
While in the third and fourth season the duels took place in a covered television studio, they have been taking place outdoors since the fifth season; initially (seasons 5–6) the broadcast therefore referred to the outdoor duel arena . It is now simply referred to as the arena .
- Candidate selection
In the third season, the direction determined a resident of the more luxurious area who had to compete in the duel arena. That candidate then had to choose one of the poor area residents to play against him. In the fourth season, the direction determined one or more residents from both areas who had to compete in the duel arena. In the fifth and sixth season, the residents competed in duels, regardless of which area they belong to. Since the fifth season, the candidates have been chosen by the residents themselves or by the director.
Big donor
Since the fifth season there has been a Big Spender in the poor area . This is a machine where residents can use coins ( Big Coins ) to purchase items for everyday use, such as cigarettes or shampoo. The residents can obtain the coins for this through challenges and games.
Because of the motto of the eighth season, fairytale. Without parole , the Big Spender was renamed to Wunschbaum and the coins to Taler .
Spectator box
Since the sixth season, the residents of the poor area have received a box every day (season 6–7) or irregularly (season 8), the content of which is determined by the audience in advance. On the website promibigbrother.de (seasons 6–7) or in the Sat.1 app (season 8), viewers select an item from two suggested items.
Because of the motto of the eighth season, fairy tale. Without parole , the spectator box was renamed the spectator chest .
Supermarket
Since the seventh season, residents of the poor area have been able to go shopping in a small penny market as part of a product placement . Those who live in poor areas receive one euro per day. The residents can top up their money in games. Only one person from the area can then go shopping. Within 60 seconds she is only allowed to take products from the shelves one after the other, stating the product type, have them scanned at the scanner checkout and put them in a basket. In the last week of the eighth season, the option of increasing the budget was eliminated and the shopping time was reduced to 30 seconds.
While in the seventh season the residents of the poor area chose the buyer themselves, in the eighth season the viewers decide through online voting via the Sat.1 app.
Because of the motto of the eighth season, fairy tale. Without parole , the supermarket was renamed Knusperhäuschen .

First season (2013)
The first season aired from September 13-27, 2013. It was advertised that only "A-category" celebrities participate.
In the first week of the broadcast, the twelve residents lived together in a container. From the seventh day onwards, one participant was selected every day. As in the previous Big Brother seasons, there were daily tasks, matches and challenges. In contrast to previous seasons of Big Brother, in which the living container was in Cologne , it was now set up in Berlin .
While the opening show was able to record 3.21 million viewers, the number of viewers fell to 1.34 million on September 18 (market share 6.6 percent). In live shows, the stands were partially filled with extras.
After the live show on September 24, Pamela Anderson moved into the Big Brother house as a guest until the finale. On September 27, 2013 Jenny Elvers-Elbertzhagen was chosen as the winner of the season.

Third season (2015)
In the finale of the second season, presenter Jochen Schropp announced a continuation of Celebrity Big Brother for 2015. As announced, the start of the two-week season was on August 14, 2015, and Schropp again took over the moderation.
The winner of the third season was David Odonkor.
The odds of the opening show were significantly weaker than those of the second season. This didn't change during the 1st week of the 3rd season either. During the second week, however, the number of viewers and the ratings rose again, so that almost the 3 million viewer mark was reached and over 23% was reached in the 14 to 49 year old segment.
