Arash ( Persian آرش[ ɒːˈraʃ ], Azerbaijani Arəş ; * April 23, 1978 in Tehran ; actually Alex Ārash Labāf ) is an Iranian singer who has lived in Malmö , Sweden , since his youth .

Life

Arash, who among other things has Persian and Azerbaijani roots, became known - first in his adopted home, later also in Germany - through the song Boro Boro (freely translated: go away! ). He wrote the song at a time when he briefly lost his voice and his girlfriend at the time left him. The song refers to this former girlfriend. The title draws on Europeanized stylistic elements of Indian and Persian music , which was sometimes interpreted as an attempt to profit purely commercially from the popularity of the subcontinent at the time of publication. The title reached number 1 in the Swedish singles charts and also made it into the top 20 in Germany.

The album Arash was released in 2005 . In Germany this album has a slightly different title composition compared to the international version and was released in 2006.

In 2005 Arash sang the song Vostotschnyje Skaski ("Oriental Fairy Tales") together with the Russian pop band Blestjaschtschije . In the song Arash describes the girls from Blestjashchije (including Anna Semenowitsch at that time ) as "my four wives".

In 2006 he also presented the title Temptation in Germany , with which he entered the charts at number 29 in the first week . In this song Rebecca Zadig sings the chorus . She also worked on several of his projects. The song is a cover version of Baila Maria of the Arab-Israeli band Alabina (with their singer Ishtar) from 1996. The third single Arash (featuring Helena ) was released in the summer of 2006.

Arash toured the world for a long time with DJ Aligator and also recorded a few songs with him, for example Iran's unofficial anthem for the 2006 World Cup (Iran, Iran).

On August 27, 2008, his album Donya was released . The single of the same name was available since March 2008 and was recorded with Shaggy . The music video for the title was recorded in Istanbul , Turkey . The album also features the title Chori Chori , which Arash recorded with the singer Aneela and which was released as a single in September 2006 under the artist name “Aneela feat. Arash ”had appeared. This track is a cover version of Snow's hit Informer from 1993. Musically, Arash stayed true to himself on this album. In addition to Shaggy, he also worked again with Helena and Rebecca Zadig, who had already been involved in his last projects. With Lumidee , Arash recorded the title Kandi , which was released as a single under the title I Like You .

In 2009 Arash represented Azerbaijan together with the young singer AySel at the Eurovision Song Contest in the Russian capital Moscow . Her competition title Always ("Immer") , composed by Arash among others, reached 3rd place. One day before the Eurovision Song Contest on May 15, the single entered the Swedish charts at number 41.

His song Glorious was the official song of the 2011 Men's Handball World Championship . As a harbinger of Arash's fourth studio album, the single She Makes Me Go was released in February 2013 . The collaboration with Sean Paul made it into the German top 10 straight away. It was Arash's greatest success in Germany to date. In January 2018 the single Dooset Daram was released, recorded together with Helena, with whom Arash has worked before.

Arash played a role in the 2012 film "Season of the Rhinoceros" (Persian Fasle kargadan ) by the Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi .
