Era Istrefi (* 4. July 1994 in Pristina , Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar Pop - singer .
Life
Istrefi's father was an editor at Radiotelevizioni 21 (RTV 21). She has two sisters and one brother. Her sister Nora is also a singer.
Career
Istrefi's music career began in 2013 when her debut single Mani për money was released. After a year off, three more songs were released in 2014. With E dehun , she achieved her first major media presence. There she appears in scanty clothing and provocative poses and under ecclesiastical protest in front of the unfinished Christ the Redeemer Church in Pristina , the construction of which began in the 1990s as a symbol of Slobodan Milošević's repressive policies in Kosovo . In 2015 the singles Njo si ti and Shumë pis, for which music videos were released for each, were in the Albanian charts.
With the song BonBon , which was released in December 2015, she topped the Albanian charts. On February 24, 2016, she signed a contract with Sony Music Entertainment with her then-producer Nesër . It has been announced that Era Istrefi will record her first studio album in partnership with RCA Records, which will also be released in the United States. On July 27, 2016, an English version of the hometown BonBon was published , which she wrote together with Jenson Vaughan . At the same time, a remix pack with versions of Post Malone and Marshmello was released . The English version made Istrefi known across the borders; so she not only reached the top 10 in the German single charts, but also the US dance and electronic charts.
Because she was unable to perform in various countries with her Kosovar passport, she was also granted Albanian citizenship in early 2017 by a decree by Albanian President Bujar Nishani .
In 2018, she sang Live It Up with Nicky Jam and Will Smith , the official song of the 2018 World Cup in Russia , which was released on May 25, 2018.
In terms of style, Istrefi's music can best be assigned to pop, dubstep and reggae.
