Samira Efendi

Samira Efendi , also: Efendi , (actually: Samira Efendiyeva; Azerbaijani : Samirə Əfəndiyeva ; born April 17, 1991 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani singer . She will represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 .

life and career

Efendi was born in the Azerbaijani capital Baku in 1991 and comes from a military family. She became enthusiastic about music at an early age and became a soloist at the Baku Children's Philharmonic at the age of three. She attended a music school where she learned to play the piano. In 2006 she began studying at the Asəf Zeynallı Conservatory , the leading music school in Baku.

In 2009 Efendi took part in the Yeni Ulduz 09 singing competition for the first time . In the Azerbaijani version of The Voice , Səs Azərbaycan , she took third place in the final of the 2015/16 season. In 2017 she also took third place in the international singing competition Silk Way Star . She also represented Azerbaijan in 2019 at the Voice of Nur-Sultan singing festival in Kazakhstan .

Efendi tried several times to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2020 she prevailed against four competitors and was selected to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam , where she was to compete in the first semifinals on May 12 with the song Cleopatra . However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the ESC 2020 has been canceled, which means that it will compete at the 2021 event instead.
