Helena Marianne Josefsson (born March 23, 1978 in Kalmar , Sweden ) is a Swedish singer and songwriter . She is the lead singer of the band "Sandy Mouche" and has worked for many years as a background singer for various Swedish artists, the most famous of which is Per Gessle ( Roxette ). She released her first solo album, "Dynamo" in 2007.

biography

Helena learned to dance at the age of three and sang in a choir when she was seven. She plays several instruments including keyboard , tambourine and harmonica . Her grandmother owned a record shop. Josefsson has been married since 2003, has two sons and lives in the Malmö region. She has completed an optician training.

First musical steps

Helena was a member of various groups in the Malmö region during her college days. These included "Plastic Soul" (first known as "Jive with Clive"), a project with Magnus Tingsek and his band, and a collaboration with Dan Bornemark's band "The Good Mornings".

Sandy Mouche

During her time in the group "Plastic Soul" Helena already worked with Per Blomgren (drums). With his brother Ola (guitar) and Martin Nilsson (keyboard / vocals) she founded the group "Sandy Mouche" in autumn 2001 while on vacation. Danyal Taylan (bass) also belonged to the group until 2004. So far they have performed in Sweden and France. Releases in Sweden, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Australia and Japan: an EP ("Sandy Mouche", spring 2003), several promo singles ("Cherry Pie", 2003; "C'est pas juste und Papillon", 2004) ), three download singles (all 2005: "Une histoire", "In the Sand" and "Spiderweb Suit") and two albums ("White Lucky Dragon", September 2004 and "... Poems for the Unborn", January 2006) . The song "Spiderweb Suit", written by Helena, was used in the movie "New York Waiting" (directed by Joachim Hedén, 2006). Sandy Mouche released their first single "Hurt", from their third album "Glory and Grace", on December 17, 2012 worldwide as a download single, for which a music video was also produced. Furthermore, a series of concerts was announced for 2013, the release concert for the new album took place on May 4th in Malmö at Victoria Teatern. The third studio album "Glory and Grace" was released on May 8, 2013.

Solo projects

In February 2007 Helena's first solo album "Dynamo" was released by EMI Sweden, which consists of 13 songs (including from the single releases: "By Your Side" (October 2006); "Never Never (My Dynamo)" (February 2007) ) and “Where Does the Unused Love Go?”).

It was published by Per Gessles Elevator Entertainment, produced in 2006 by Christoffer Lundquist (producer and guitarist with Roxette, among others) in the Aerosol Gray Machine Studios in Vollsjö / southern Sweden. The album reached number 23 on the Swedish charts.

She released her second solo album "Kyss mej" in 2011 on Capitol Records and Elevator, which contains 11 songs, including the 2009 single "Fen & Jag". The promotion for the album "Kyss mej" turned out to be relatively small, as Helena was already on a world tour with Roxette as a background singer at that time. "Kyss Mej" and "Knockout" were released as download singles, and there was also a music video for the title "Nån annanstans, nån annan gång" without an album-related single release.

Their third studio album "Happiness" was released on October 16, 2015, in collaboration with the Swedish jazz band Kontur, which is a mixture of pop and jazz music. On October 17th, 2015 there was an album release concert in the Victoria Theater in Malmö. The first pre-release single from the album was released on March 23, 2015 and is a cover version of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time . Another advance single was released on September 18, 2015 under the title "Happiness". This was followed by a mini tour in small Swedish towns.

Since October 2016 Helena has been working on her fourth solo album, which was to become her third, predominantly English-language, pop album. To this end, she has teamed up with musicians from southern Sweden and California at the AGM in Vollsjö. This album under the name "BeautyLoveAnything" was released on March 15, 2019 in a digital version with 11 tracks and in a limited vinyl version with 8 tracks.

Background vocals and other projects

Josefsson has sung backing vocals for many Swedish and some international artists, including: The Ark, Righteous Boy, Swan Lee, Justin Winokur, Gyllene Tider , Doug Wyatt, Junior Senior, Andreas Johnson, Sebastian Karlsson, Hideki Kaji, The Margarets, Metro Jets, Brainpool, Pelle Ossler, Air Bureau, Stockfinster, District 1269, Fredo and Arash (Labaf), Per Gessle, Roxette & Mono Mind.

Many of these collaborations originated in the studios in the Skåne / South Sweden region, e.g. B. in the Tambourine Studios and Gula Studion in Malmö or the Aerosol Gray Machine Studios (AGM) in Vollsjö.

Per Gessle

In 2003 Josefsson was part of the recordings of Per Gessle's Swedish solo album "Mazarin" as a background singer. Gessle's Mazarin project was the start for a touring band with Per Gessle (vocals and guitar), Clarence Öfwerman (keyboard), Christoffer Lundquist (guitar), Jens Jansson (drums) and Helena Josefsson (vocals / background vocals). After Mazarin three more albums followed with her, one in Swedish and two in English, Son of a Plumber (2005), En hand man (2007) and Party Crasher (2008). Josefsson's voice took over the lead on some songs. The albums were followed by tours in Sweden: Mazarin Sommarturne (2003) and En hand man Sommarturne (2007), as well as the European tour: The Party Crasher Tour (2009). Since the end of the Roxette Live era, in spring 2016, Helena has also taken on background appearances for Per, most recently on Per Gessle's Roxette European Tour in 2018.

Arash

Josefsson worked with the Iranian-Swedish singer Arash Labaf on some songs. For his debut album "Arash" she sang the title song of the same name. For the follow-up album "Donya" she sang the title "Pure Love". The 2014 album “Superman” includes the tracks “One Day” and “Broken Angel”. However, she did not appear in the accompanying music videos, but was replaced by an actress. On January 26th, 2018 the single "Dooset Daram" was released. Roxette

Since 2010 she has been alternating with Malin Ekstrand as a background singer for Roxette. Since February 2011 she has been on the World Tour with Roxette, which will last until September 2012. Since then she has taken care of her group "Sandy Mouche" and her solo project again. She also worked on the recordings for Roxette's “ Traveling ” album (2012) as a background singer and duet partner of Roxette front woman Marie Fredriksson in the song “Perfect Excuse”. For the album " Good Karma ", which was released in June 2016, Helena sang background parts repeatedly.

Dollykollot / The Dollycamp

Besides Josefsson, Nina Persson ( The Cardigans ), Cecilia Norlund, Gudrun Hauksdottir and Lotta Wenglén are members of the “Dollycamp” . The story is about five musicians who are on the trail of Dolly Parton . The project, which has been running since 2004, reached its climax in 2011 with the release of the album of the same name and the DvD "Jag är min egen Dolly Parton" / "I'm my own Dolly Parton". In her honor, a number of concerts were held and a CD was recorded, on which there are also cover versions of Dolly Parton songs (including "Jolene"). Helena contributed the song "Nån annanstans, nån annan gång" to the album.

Robert Pettersson

For the film "Hamilton" / "Agent Hamilton", which was released in Sweden in 2011 (in Germany from September 2012), Josefsson sang a duet with Robert Pettersson (" Takida ") entitled "My own worst Enemy". A music video was also shot and released for the song.

Magnus Börjeson

Since the summer of 2016 she has been working with Magnus, who most recently worked as a bassist in the Roxette band. The project deals with “Chanson Electronique”. Magnus added a song from your 4th solo album in collaboration with Helena, "All the blue". Magnus also plays in Helena's current live band.

Mono Min

In July 2017, the Mono Mind project appeared in the course of the release of the song Save Me a Place . While the project is officially made up of the fictional characters Bright Jones, Cookie Carter, Dr. Robot and Rain Davis, it was actually founded by Roxette member- Per Gessle .
