Medina (2014)

Medina Danielle Oona Valbak (born November 30, 1982 in Aarhus ; actually Andrea Fuentealba Valbak ) is a Danish pop and dance singer and songwriter .

Career

Medina has a Danish mother and a Chilean father and grew up in Aarhus. Her name Medina is one of the names she chose herself in 2005 after visiting a numerologist .

In the mid-2000s she was discovered by the producer duo "Providers" and signed to their label Soulcamp . Her debut album Tæt på was released there , but it met with little response.

She had her breakthrough in 2008 with the song Kun for mig (translated “Just for me”). The song became a club hit and also hit the radio and sales charts. By the end of January 2009, the single rose to number 1 on the Danish charts and stayed in the top 10 for almost six months. It was sold over 75,000 times and achieved double platinum status. The song was viewed over four million times on both her MySpace page and YouTube.

In May 2009, Medina was part of Denmark's five-person jury at the Eurovision Song Contest .

In July she released a new version of her hit titled Kun for dig ("Only for you") together with her label colleague, the rapper LOC. She immediately rose to number 1 in the Danish charts. Shortly thereafter, Velkommen til Medina was her third number 1 in a row. The debut album of the same name entered the top 10 of the album charts in September. In the fall she took an English-language version of Kun for mig titled You and I on. It reached number 1 on the UK dance charts and was also successful in the official UK charts .

At the MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 Medina was named best Danish performer.

In spring 2010 she made it into the charts across Europe with her single You and I and into the top 10 of the German single charts.

In June 2010 she was the victim of a Muslim campaign at a concert, which is bothered by her nickname "Medina". She was pelted with eggs during the performance, but continued the performance after a short break.

In 2011, she joined with the British Grime - Rapper Tinie Tempah at The Dome with the song Invincible on.

In 2011 she was also seen as a guest star in Sat.1 - Telenovela Anna und die Liebe (episode 647).

On February 26, 2016, after a 4 year break, the singer released her new, English-language album "We survive", which was released internationally at the same time. After a week, the album promptly placed 39 on the official German album sales charts.
