Welcome to Medina (German: "Willkommen bei Medina" ) is the second studio album and the international debut album by the Danish singer Medina . It was released on July 23, 2010 in Germany. The Danish version Velkommen til Medina was released in Denmark on August 21, 2009, where it reached number 2 on the album charts.

Background information

The Danish singer Medina became famous with her second studio album, Velkommen til Medina . Especially her first single from the album, Kun for mig (German: "Only for me" ), was a great success and is the best-selling single of 2009 in Denmark. With more than 60,000 copies sold, it reached double platinum . On July 24th, 2009 the second single Velkommen til Medina from the album of the same name was released in Denmark. On November 2nd of the same year the third single Ensom . Both were able to build on the success of Kun for mig and reached the top position or number 2 in the Danish charts. On 23 November 2009, the special edition of the album was released, which includes a bonus CD of their song on, among other remixes You & I are included. The CD also contains a modified version of the song Kun for mig , on which the Danish rapper Liam O'Connor, LOC for short, contributes a rap part. This new version, titled Kun for dig , became another number one hit for Medina and stayed in the Danish charts for more than 20 weeks.

After the great success with their second Danish studio album Velkommen til Medina and the released single Kun for mig , it was translated into English for an international release. You & I became a success for Medina and reached number 10 in the German single charts as well as the top 40 in the charts in Austria, Switzerland and Great Britain and topped the dance charts there. The second international single is Lonely , the English translation of the hit Ensom , which reached number 2 in the Danish singles charts. In July 2010, Medina released her international debut album entitled Welcome to Medina . For this, the Danish songs Kun for mig , Velkommen til Medina , Ensom and Vi to (German: “We two” ) were translated into English. Medina said she was very proud of the album and that it had an "international sound". For the translations, Medina worked again with the songwriters and producers of the Danish version, who worked for Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears , among others . The tracks You & I , Welcome to Medina , Lonely and The One can be found on the album, along with seven pieces newly composed especially for the album. In an interview, Medina spoke about the meanings of two of the new songs Selfish (German: “ Selfish ” ) and Gutter (German: “Gosse” ): “I think everyone has a selfish personality when it comes to certain things. The song Selfish means something like: 'In your presence I'll be very selfish and I don't care what you think about it.' [...] Gutter is a love song. The album was received mixed by critics. Matthias Reichel from CDStarts gave the album a neutral rating: “The whole package on Welcome to Medina doesn't sound really fresh .
