Life

Sean Paul grew up in Saint Andrew Parish in southwest Jamaica. His father's ancestors came from Portugal and belonged to the Sephardic Jews , those of his mother, a well-known painter, from Africa and China . Because of this, he had an unusual appearance for Jamaicans, for which he was teased as a child. He countered this with the self-given name "Copper Color Chinese Bwoy" ("copper-colored Chinese boy"). He was a talented athlete, especially in swimming and water polo - in the latter sport he was active in the Jamaican youth national selection. He ended his athletic career at the age of ten after his father was sentenced to prison, and then devoted himself to music.

As a first musical basis, he received a keyboard from his mother for his 15th birthday . In 1996, the debut single Baby Girl (Don't Cry) brought him his first success in Jamaica. His music was later played on some US radio stations, which started his international career. His musical role model is Bob Marley . With his first album Stage One he achieved global success. The second album Dutty Rock surpassed this with more than six million sales and a 54-week position in the German album charts. The album also won a Grammy in the “ Best Reggae Album ” category .

He recorded songs with Beyoncé , Mýa , Rihanna , Blu Cantrell , Fabolous , Lil Jon , Brandy , Sasha , Carlos Santana , Jay Sean , Nina Sky and Busta Rhymes (ESRA), among others . The third album, The Trinity , contains the song Never Gonna Be the Same , which Sean Paul dedicated to his best friend Daddigon, who was shot on January 27, 2005 and who was also part of the Dutty Cup crew.

Sean Paul received several awards such as the "Best Music Video Award" at the MTV Music Awards in Toronto in 2003 . He was represented at the MTV European Music Awards, where he received the award in the “Best New Artist” category. In 2006 he took a detour into the reggaetón genre by releasing the reggaetón track Oh Man with Daddy Yankee and Luny Tunes . In 2011 Sean Paul released the single Got 2 Luv U together with Alexis Jordan , which made it into the top 10 in France, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands and reached number 1 in Switzerland. It's his most successful song in Europe since Get Busy in 2003.

In December 2011 he announced that his new album Tomahawk Technique would be released in January 2012 in some countries such as Switzerland and France. Two weeks later he presented the album cover and the track list. What I Want was released as a digital promo single before releasing the second single She Doesn't Mind in Germany in February 2012.
