Blu Cantrell
Blu Cantrell (actually Tiffany Cobb ; born March 16, 1976 in Providence , Rhode Island ) is an American R&B and soul singer.
Life
childhood
Cantrell comes in 1976 in Providence , Rhode Iceland , the eldest child of a professional NBA - Basketball player and a jazz singer with German, French, Scottish descent to the world. Already at the age of three she appeared as part of the local church choir at charity concerts and singing competitions in front of larger audiences. After their parents split up, Cantrell moves to Atlanta , Georgia, with her mother and five siblings .
Career
Inspired by her mother's occupation, Cantrell decides to try her luck in the music business. In 2000 , Tab and Laney Stewart, managing directors of Red Zone Entertainment, notice a demo tape by the young singer. They organize a meeting with Antonio "LA" Reid , who, after a successful audition, offers her a record deal with his label Arista Records . A little later, Blu starts recording her debut album; At the same time, she will initially also support Puff Daddy , Faith Evans and Truth Hurts as a background singer .
In 2001 her first album So Blu was released . Carried by the success of the first and only single hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!) , The record developed into a top 10 success, at least in the English-speaking world; In the USA alone, the record sells more than 500,000 units within a few months and thus achieved gold status . The single received two Grammy nominations and won Cantrell both an American Music Award and the 2001 Lady of Soul Award.
After a two-year break, the singer finally returns in 2003 with her second album, Bittersweet . Although the record in the United States is nowhere near the success of its debut, it helps Cantrell achieve his first breakthrough, especially in Europe and Australia. The single Breathe (in collaboration with Sean Paul ) reached # 1 in Great Britain and Ireland, among others. The successor U Make Me Wanna Scream can at least prevail on radio airplay.
In 2005 the video for the single The Cha Cha was published on the Internet, but neither the video nor the single are published in any other way.
