Antonio Marquis "LA" Reid (born June 7, 1956 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American music producer . In 1989 he founded LaFace Records with Kenneth Edmonds . The former CEO of Arista Records is now the CEO of Island Def Jam Records .

Antonio LA Reid was a member of The Deele group ; he wrote, produced and released three albums with this band and separated from her in the late 1980s to write and produce for other artists with his partner Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who was also a member of The Deele. Her first bigger hits were Rock Steady from The Whispers and Girlfriend from Pebbles (both 1987).

Both became successful R&B producers and songwriters. Together they wrote over 150 hits for Whitney Houston , Bobby Brown , Boyz II Men , Madonna , Mariah Carey and others. The two parted ways in the mid-1990s. Babyface founded his own entertainment with his wife and Reid became president of the BMG- owned label Arista in 2000 as the successor to founder Clive Davis (as one of the first African American in such a high position in the US record industry), but did not stay long and switched to 2004 to Def Jam . For example, he discovered Pink and Avril Lavigne for Arista, but made heavy losses in 2003.

LA Reid is now married to artist Pebbles , whom he sponsored in the 1990s, and has a son, Aaron. His 16th birthday party at Jay-Z's New York Club 40/40 was featured on the MTV show My Super Sweet Sixteen . Amongst others, P. Diddy , Jermaine Dupri and Kanye West performed there .
