Jermaine Dupri , also JD , (actually Jermaine Dupri Mauldin , born September 23, 1972 in Asheville , North Carolina ) is an American musician , producer , rapper , actor and head of his own record label So So Def Records.

Through his father, concert manager and manager for R&B groups, he was introduced to the music business at an early age. His first big success was the production of the duo Kris Kross . He later also produced for Mariah Carey , Usher , Jagged Edge , Monica and other R&B artists.
