Funkmaster Flex
Funkmaster Flex (born August 5, 1968 in New York as Aston Taylor ) is an American DJ and became known as the radio host of the stations Hot 97 (New York) and Power106 ( Los Angeles ).
biography
Taylor is the son of a Jamaican dancehall DJ through whom he came into contact with DJing. When he bought his first turntables at the age of 16 , he became an assistant to Chuck Chillout. After his radio show was discontinued on Radio Kiss FM , Taylor received his own radio show in 1987. There he moderated for a year and a half before moving to the Hot97 channel .
From 1995 he released three mixtapes of the 60 Minutes Of Funk series. After the contract with the Loud label expired, he switched to the Def Jam label , which released the club album The Tunnel . The Tunnel is a collaboration with DJ Big Kap , which is a compilation of the popular songs in the New York club of the same name.
Taylor then returned to the Loud label to continue the mixtape series 60 Minutes of Funk in 2000. On December 5, 2000, the fourth and so far last mixtape from the 60 Minutes Of Funk: The Mixtape series was released. Although the fifth episode had already been announced several times after the release was postponed several times, it was never released because the Loud Records label was temporarily dissolved in the same year and all artists were dismissed.
All four albums from the 60 Minutes Of Funk: The Mixtape series were awarded gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in the USA . The album The Tunnel with Big Kap was awarded platinum .
