Tamia

Tamia (actually Tamia Washington-Hill ; * 9. May 1975 in Windsor , Ontario as Tamia Reneé Washington ) is a Canadian R & B singer.

Life

Tamia Washington began singing in a gospel choir at Church in Windsor, Ontario at the age of six . To develop her voice, she took singing lessons when she was ten. After a few smaller talent competitions, she won the 1993 YTV Vocal Achievement Award , a Canadian radio award . In 1994 she won the attention of Brenda Richie and Quincy Jones during an awards show in Los Angeles . A year later, at the age of 19, she recorded the song You Put A Move On My Heart for Quincy Jones' album Q's Jook Joint , which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1996. In the same year she recorded the song Missing You with Brandy , Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan for the soundtrack of the movie Set If Off , which was also nominated for a Grammy. She had a third Grammy nomination in the category "Best R'n'B Performance By A Duo with Vocal" together with Babyface for the song Slow Jams .

In 1998 she released her first solo album titled Tamia , followed by the album A Nu Day in 2001 . This included their biggest hit to date, Stranger In My House . In 2005 the album More was released .

On July 24, 1999, she married the American basketball player Grant Hill , with whom she has two daughters.
