I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) is a 1981 Hall & Oates song , written by the band and Sara Allen. It appeared on the album Private Eyes .

history

One evening in a music studio in New York in 1981, Daryl Hall prepared the rough version of the song for the Private Eyes session . Because he was dissatisfied with the result, he reworked the song with John Oates and Sara Allen the next day. The bassline comes from a Korg synthesizer (played by Daryl Hall), the guitar was played by John Oates and the recordings were made by Neil Kernon . According to BMI , this is one of 14 songs by the band that have been played over a million times in the United States and on VH1s List "100 Greatest Songs of the 80s" made this place 6. The publication took place on November 2, 1981 instead.

After recording We Are the World , Hall approached Michael Jackson about the similarities between I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) and Billie Jean . Hall received confirmation that Billie Jean's bassline was taken from his song.
