Mac Dre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mac Dre (born July 5, 1970 in Oakland ( California ), USA ; † November 1, 2004 in Kansas City (Missouri) ; actually Andre Hicks ) was a Californian gang star rapper . He celebrated success in the 1990s with his label Thizz Entertainment and together with scene greats such as Snoop Dogg and Yukmouth .

Career and biography

Mac Dr's musical career began in the early 1990s. He gained attention in the USA through his independent label "Romp and Thizz Entertainment". Later he invented the "Thizzle Dance". The rapper recorded his first three albums between 1989 and 1991. Dre then spent the time between 1992 and 1996 in prison on charges of being a member of the Romper Room Gang , a group that had robbed various banks. His label "Romp Productions" and various references to the Romper Room in his songs led to the assumption that the 22-year-old Hicks was sentenced to five years in prison.

Dre remained productive in prison, not only working on songs but recording them. He recorded the album "Back 'N Da Hood" while he was in prison until 1996. From 1996, the general public noticed him more, which was also evident from the season given to him in various mainstream radio stations. He founded “Thizz Entertainment” in 2001, where “Thizz” is American slang and describes the state after taking ecstasy.

death

On November 1, 2004, Mac Dre was killed in a drive-by shoot on Highway 71 after an appearance in Kansas City, Missouri . By the time the van the rapper was in went off the road and crashed into a tree, Mac Dre had already been killed by a bullet that hit him in the neck. The driver of the van survived the attack . It has been suggested that rapper Anthony "Fat Tone" Watkins is responsible for the murder of Mac Dre. Watkins was killed in 2005 by Bay Area rapper Mac Minister, who was seeking revenge for Dre's murder. Mac Minister was arrested by the FBI in March 2006 .

In late August 2006, the theft of the late Bay Area rapper's gravestone from Oakland Mountain Cemetery caused a stir. Dr's best friend AP.9 then expressed indignation and offered a reward of 10,000 dollars for whoever brought him the thief of the tombstone.
