Amil (born September 19, 1978 in New York City ; real name Amil Kahala Whitehead ) is an American rapper .

Career

Amil was discovered by the rapper Jay-Z , who was looking for a female voice for his 1998 album Vol. 2 ... Hard Knock Life . At that time, Whitehead was still a member of Major Coinz's group. Jay-Z recorded the song Can I Get A ... with her and Ja Rule , which appeared on the Rush Hour soundtrack. This was followed by other collaborations with Jay-Z, including Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up) and Nigga What, Nigga Who (Orginator 1999) . Both were released as single. She also supported artists such as Mariah Carey , Memphis Bleek , Jermaine Dupri , Funkmaster Flex and LL Cool J on their albums. In 2000 Whitehead released her debut album All Money Is Legal and the accompanying single I Got That with Beyoncé . The album, which placed at number 45 in the USA . The second single was 4 Da Fam (feat. Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel).

The single Hey Papi , by her, Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek appeared on the soundtrack for the film Familie Klumps and the Crazy Professor in 2000 and reached number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100.
