Ja Rule (* 29. February 1976 in New York City , New York ; bourgeois Jeffrey Atkins ) is an American rapper . Ja Rule is J effrey A tkins R epresents U nconditional L ove E xists.
Career
Atkins, who grew up in Hollis, Queens borough, began early on with rap; at the age of 16 he wrote his first texts. He made his first experiences in the rap business in 1994 at TVT Records (the later label of Lil Jon, among others ) with Chris Black (later Jodie Mack) and Nemesis (later O-1) in a formation called Cash Money Click . Although numerous songs have been recorded, one album (which should be called "Est. Since '93") was never released. At the beginning of 1996 they finally separated due to the non-publication. At the beginning of his career he worked with producer Irv Gotti , the later founder of The Inc. or Murder Inc., who put him on Lyor Cohen. He was President of Def Jam , which at that time (1996) had DMX and Jay-Z under contract.
In 1999 Ja Rule released the debut album Venni Vetti Vecci . The album was a success. With titles like Holla holla and Kill 'em all , he drew attention to himself not least because of the active support of DMX, E-Dub and Jay-Z. With his second solo album Rule 3:36 he finally made his breakthrough in the rap and music business. Ja Rule sold four million copies of this second album.
In 2001 Ja Rule played alongside Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in the Hollywood film The Fast and the Furious and provided the corresponding soundtrack on his album Rule 3:36 with the title Fuck you!
His single The Reign was a huge hit in 2003. Nevertheless, his reputation in the rap business dwindled more and more. This resulted in disputes with well-known personalities such as Eminem , 50 Cent , Dr. Dre and DMX . Particularly noteworthy is the dispute with 50 Cent, during which 50 Cent was stabbed by The Inc. rapper Black Child in New York City in March 2000 . In 2004 he released his sixth successful album RULE , which was followed by the best-of album Exodus , which was unsuccessful. In 2002 he starred alongside Steven Seagal in the film Halbtot , which was made entirely in Berlin. 2003 followed a supporting role in the strip Scary Movie 3 . He also starred as Reggie Cooper in the 2005 film Back in the Day .
In September 2007, Ja Rule was heavily criticized by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for his homophobic remarks in an interview that "homosexuality is bad for America".
From 2011 to 2013 he had to serve a two-year prison sentence for illicit gun possession and tax evasion.
In 2017, he hit the headlines again when a luxury music festival he organized, Fyre, on a private island came to a disastrous end due to poor organization and caused $ 25 million USD in damage.
