Memphis Bleek
Memphis Bleek (born June 23, 1978 in Brooklyn , New York ; real name Malik Thuston Cox ) is an American rapper who is also known as MEM, M Extra Money, M Bleek or M Easy.
biography
Memphis Bleek grew up in bad circumstances with his friend Shawn Carter in one of the poorest areas of New York.
Both deal with rap and start to write their first lyrics. When his friend Shawn Carter, now known as Jay-Z , records his album "Reasonable Doubt", he lets his friend rap a few lines while recording the song "Coming of Age". Jay-Z's album is a hit, but Bleek gets little attention. In 1999 Jay-Z already owns his own record company Roc-A-Fella Records and supports Bleek with his first solo project "Coming of Age". His album, which features guest appearances by Ja Rule and Beanie Sigel , is very successful, but Bleek cannot stand out from the shadow of Jay-Z.
Memphis Bleek continues to work with Jay-Z and in 2000 released the follow-up album "The Understanding". His third album "MADE" was finally released three years later. Bleek is much more innovative on this album and was supported by guest appearances by Kanye West and Just Blaze .
In 2005 he released his album "534", the title of which stands for the house number of the house in which he grew up. On his album he is supported by old friends from New York like MOP , but nevertheless his album doesn’t give him the boost he had hoped for.
