Oppendorf is a district of the municipality of Stemwede in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Minden-Lübbecke . About 900 people live here.

Oppendorf is a largely agricultural place with a closed town center on the eastern edge of the Stemweder mountain . After the Wiehengebirge , the Stemweder Berg is 181 m above sea level. NN the last major elevation before the North German Plain .

history

There is no reliable information about the first settlement on the Stemweder Berg. The "Land Stemwede" with the individual places around the Stemweder Berg, including the villages of Brockum, Burlage and Lemförde , which now belong to Lower Saxony , is mentioned in Diepholzer and Mindener documents .

The first documentary mention took place on February 26, 1259 .

On December 16, 1943, a British bomber loaded with a 1,800 kg high explosive bomb and many incendiary bombs crashed in Oppendorf. Nineteen homesteads were destroyed and eight people were killed. A bronze plaque with the names of all the victims of the disaster is located at the intersection of Oppendorfer Straße / Am Hunneort.

On January 1, 1973, Oppendorf was combined with twelve other municipalities to form the new municipality of Stemwede due to the Bielefeld Act . This did not correspond to the wishes of the local council at the time, which favored a connection to the city of Rahden .

The postcode 4995 assigned since 1962 for the north-western part of the municipality of Stemwede was replaced on July 1, 1993 by the five-digit postcode 32351 for the entire municipality of Stemwede.
