geography

Oppenwehe consists of the ten districts Bockhorn (Langenhoop), Bulzendorf, Bruch / Hohes Moor, Dorf, Fiskus, Hammoor, Hasenheide / Nagelsiedlung, Moor / Fledder, Steinkamp and Vahrenkamp.

history

Oppenwehe was first mentioned in a document from Konrad I von Rüdenberg , Bishop of Minden , from 1227, in which the donation of four farms in Openwide by the knight Helimbertus de Manen ( Helmbert von Manen ) to the monastery in Levern is recorded .

On January 1, 1973, Oppenwehe was merged with twelve other municipalities to form the new municipality of Stemwede on the basis of the Bielefeld Act .

Today's district is somewhat smaller than the former municipality of Oppenwehe, which existed until 1973 and comprised 30.05 km² (with 2173 inhabitants at that time). This is a result of the assignment of territories in the southeast and especially northeast of the municipality in the course of the municipal reform to the city of Rahden, which were greater than the small territorial gains of the same neighboring city.

traffic

The next motorway junction is Kirchlengern on the A 30 .
