Da brat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Da Brat (actually Shawntae Harris ; born April 14, 1974 in Joliet , Illinois ) is an American rapper , songwriter and actress .

biography

Harris was discovered by their producer Jermaine Dupri at a Kris Kross concert . She then got a record deal with his label So So Def Records, called herself Da Brat and released her debut album Funkdafied in 1994 , which, like all subsequent long players, was produced by Dupri. The record reached number 11 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Billboard R&B charts, went platinum and is the first album by a female rapper to sell over 1 million records . The release of the same name also became a hit, climbing to number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1994 and number 2 on the R&B charts. There was also platinum for this. It was followed by Fa All Y'all , which at least reached medium chart ranks, and Give It 2 You , which climbed into the top 30 and received a gold record .

In the fall of 1996, the album Anuthatantrum hit stores and was ranked 20th in the US charts and 5th in the R&B charts. The record and the released singles Sittin 'on Top of the World and Ghetto Love each received a gold record. The song The Party Continues , a feature with JD aka Jermaine Dupri, became a Top 30 hit and also went gold.

With the third album Unrestricted in 2000, sales rose back to the level of the debut. No. 5 on the US album charts and top position in the R&B hit list brought Da Brat another platinum record. In 2001, Da Brat appeared alongside Mariah Carey in the music film Glitter - Shine of a Star and played the role of Louise. Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz is the title of the 2003 long player, which reached number 17 on the Billboard 200 and number 6 on the R&B charts. In 2005, I Think They Like Me , a feature with The Franchize Boyz , Jermaine Dupri and Bow Wow , hit # 1 on the R&B charts and is the last single with Da Brats to make it into the charts.
