Sabrina - Totally Bewitched! (Original title: Sabrina, the Teenage Witch) is an American sitcom that ran from 1996 to 2000 on ABC and then until 2003 on The WB . In Germany, it was first broadcast on January 4, 1998 on ProSieben .

action

The series is about the youngster Sabrina Spellman, who lives with her aunts Hilda and Zelda and learns from them on her 16th birthday that she is a half- witch . From this point on, she must learn to control her magical powers and take responsibility. In addition to her aunts, she is supported by the talking tomcat Salem and many relatives and friends from the “Other Realm”. Salem Saberhagen was turned into a hangover by the Witches' Council when he tried to usurp world domination. Hilda Spellman, who was one of his followers, has to look after the transformed Salem as punishment. Sabrina's father lives in the Other Realm and rarely communicates with her, while her mother is an archaeologist . She is only allowed to see her mother when she has the license to be a witch, otherwise her mother will turn into wax.

New to school in season one, she befriends a mortal named Jennifer "Jenny" Kelley and meets American football player Harvey Kinkle, with whom she falls in love. Cheerleader Libby Chessler becomes Sabrina's rival as Libby tries to make life difficult for Sabrina.

In the second season, Sabrina turns 17 and learns that she needs a witch license in order to be able to keep her magic powers. She is assigned a "quiz master" named Albert from the Other Realm, who subjects her to a test again and again, even at the most inopportune moments. Her friend Jenny is no longer at school, but Sabrina meets Valerie Birckhead. Sabrina is now with Harvey. Her grouchy, mean vice-principal Willard Kraft falls in love with her aunt Hilda, who finds him disgusting and repulsive.

In the third season, Sabrina receives her witch license, but in order to be able to use it, she has to solve the family secret, which she succeeds in the end. The family secret is: Every member of the Spellman family is born with a twin. During this season, she receives visits from family members who leave clues for her. Your aunt Zelda is now with the vice-principal Willard Kraft, which is terrible for the rest of the house, Sabrina, Hilda and Salem.

In the fourth season, Sabrina becomes the mentor of the young witch Dreama, who is now receiving lessons in magic from her. Her rival Libby and friend Valerie have both left Westbridge High; Mr. Willard Kraft is now the director. Also, she doesn't get along well with Harvey's friend Brad Alcerro, who is a witch hunter, which means that, without knowing it, he can feel her magic. This season she takes a job in a coffee shop and fights against feelings for her boss Josh.

At the beginning of the fifth season, Sabrina graduates from high school, moves into a dormitory and Harvey separates from her because he learns of Sabrina's magical powers through a spell. Her roommates are Morgan Cavanaugh, an unreliable party girl, Roxie King, a grouchy pessimist, and Miles Goodman, a computer geek who believes in the psychic. Zelda finds a job as a professor at Sabrina's college, and Hilda eventually buys the cafe where Sabrina works after her watch store is blown up by a spell.

Since then, the actions of Hilda, Zelda and Salem have mostly taken place separately and without any influence on Sabrina, while Sabrina often gets along on her own.

At this point there were disputes between the producers and the broadcaster ABC regarding the finances, so the series switched to The WB . There, however, they wanted to address an older target group and had almost all supporting characters and scriptwriters swapped. Only Harvey was brought back into the series after audience protests, he now has to fight for her favor with Sabrina's new friends Josh and Aaron.

Sabrina Spellman

Sabrina is 16 years old at the beginning of the series and is the main character of the series. In the first season she is new to the school and is only just beginning to learn how to use her new magical powers. She is extremely ambitious and almost always gets good grades. She is also a very fair person, which makes her the total counterpart of Libby. She's dating Harvey in seasons 2, 3, and 4. Their magical powers often cause chaos in the relationship. When Sabrina graduates from school and goes to college, she falls in love with her boss Josh. Towards the end of Season 5 and the entire Season 6 are both stuck together. But Sabrina is often not sure of her feelings. When Josh leaves her at the end of season 6 to take a job in Prague, she gets together with Aaron in mid-season 7, to whom she becomes engaged. But the wedding bursts in the last episode when Sabrina leaves Aaron at the altar and decides for Harvey.

Sabrina is generally a very optimistic character who has a good sense of humor.

Zelda Spellman

Zelda is Sabrina's aunt and at the same time the oldest and smartest person in the house. She is very intelligent and has accumulated several doctoral and professorial degrees over time. At the beginning of the series, she is between 650 and 680 years old. She is at the same time the stricter, but also the more understanding of the two, and knows the right answer to all magical problems. She was only once married and has several friends over the course of the series. In the third and fourth seasons she is with Sabrina's vice-principal Willard Kraft, which the other Spellmans find terrible. In the fifth season, to be close to Sabrina, she takes a job as a professor in Sabrina's college. The first episode of season 7 reveals that she has given up her adulthood to save Sabrina's life.

Hilda Spellman

Hilda is Sabrina's younger aunt. She's nowhere near as smart as the rest of the Spellmans, which makes her extremely naive and gullible. She was once a henchman for Salem when Salem wanted to usurp world domination. So she has to take care of Salem. Hilda loves Sabrina like her own daughter and is always on hand with help and advice. In season 2, she is reluctant to be with Willard Kraft. In the fourth season, she is the owner of a small watch shop, which later explodes by magic. In season five, she buys the café where Sabrina works. Over time, she too has several rather poorly running relationships before marrying her soulmate at the end of season 6 and moving away with him.

Hilda and Zelda also have a sister named Vesta.

Salem Saberhagen

Salem is a warlock transformed into a cat by the Witches Council. He once tried to usurp world domination. He loves to shoo others back and forth and to be carried on hands. He always comments on problems in the house sarcastically or inappropriately, and he is always out for a quick buck. Salem, who has always been perceived as annoying, has been living with the Spellmans on a voluntary basis since Season 6, after Hilda was pardoned and Salem was supposed to be sent to a labor camp.

However, Salem, who serves as Sabrina's personal mentor in all situations throughout the course of the series , also tends to take advantage of her trust to benefit herself. A running gag is his constant attempt to become human again.

Harvey Kinkle

Harvey Kinkle is Sabrina's boyfriend from seasons 2-4. Harvey is a "substitute football player" at the school and not the brightest either. Nevertheless, he always tries to get recognition. He is very naive and gullible, which greatly eases the fact that he is often the victim of failed magic. In the last episode of season 4, he learns that Sabrina is a witch. He leaves her and breaks off contact with her. In season 6 he reappears as a new friend of Sabrina's roommate Morgan. As the plot progresses, it becomes apparent that he still has strong feelings for Sabrina. At the end of the 6th season he confesses his love to her again, but gives it up. In the 7th season he fights for Sabrina with Salem's help and the two finally come together at the end of the series.

Harvey has a brother and a sister. The sister's name is Una Kinkle. She comes into the world in the third season. The brother's name was never mentioned.

Libby Chesler

Libby is a cheerleader and Sabrina's greatest enemy in high school. She is extremely arrogant, self-indulgent and cold-hearted. She knows how to twist and manipulate everything in her favor. Especially Mr. Kraft is completely addicted to her and wastes school money on Libby and the cheerleaders. In the third season, she tries constantly to relax Sabrina Harvey, but she never succeeds. At the beginning of season four, Libby's parents send her to boarding school.

Willard Kraft

Is first vice-principal and later director at Sabrina's school. He is strict and extremely keen on rules. He mostly makes bad decisions for the students, except for Libby, to whom he has fallen and for whom he always has school fees. He is extremely unpopular and is considered grouchy and mean among the students. In season two, he falls in love with Hilda, who only enters into a relationship with him to protect Sabrina. In the 3rd and 4th seasons he is with Zelda. The relationship ends with a mud fight between the two.

Roxie King

Roxie will be Sabrina's roommate from season 5. When she meets Sabrina, she is not enthusiastic about her cheerful nature and rejects her. Over time, however, the two become good friends who enjoy spending time together. Roxie is rather morose because she comes from a broken home. When her mother comes out of prison, she continues to thaw. She is a sharp opponent of fashion and prejudice. In season 7, she moves into the Spellmans' house with Morgan.

Morgan Cavanaugh

Morgan can be seen from the 5th season and wants to be a fashion designer. At the beginning she is the senior citizen in the student house, doesn't take this job or her studies seriously because she is more interested in fashion, parties and boys. In character she is the total counterpart to Roxie. She is first with Josh and later with Harvey. When her father turns off the money, she reluctantly takes a job in Hilda's café, which she doesn't take seriously either.

Valerie Birkhead

Valerie is Sabrina's best friend in seasons 2 and 3. She really wants to be popular, but she never succeeds. Instead, she is often the victim of Libby's ridicule. However, Sabrina's attempts to help Valerie with magic always fail. Valerie leaves school early in Season 4 and moves to Anchorage with her family.
