Michael Habeck (born April 23, 1944 in Grönenbach ; † February 4, 2011 in Munich ) was a German actor , dubbing and radio play speaker . His voice was best known for dubbing comedian Oliver Hardy .

Theater, film and television

After studying acting and singing from 1963 to 1965 at the Zerboni Drama School in Munich , Michael Habeck was engaged at the Frankfurt Schauspielhaus until 1970 . From 1970 to 1983 he was a member of the Münchner Kammerspiele ensemble . Further stations as a theater actor were the modern theater in Munich, where he also worked as a director, the Bavarian State Theater and the Munich Volkstheater . As part of the Ruhr Festival , Habeck appeared in 1974 as Lennox in Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth , which was recorded by ARD and broadcast on television. His leading roles included Baloun in Brecht's drama Schweyk during World War II and Puck in Shakespeare's comedy Midsummer Night's Dream (1979), which was also recorded and released on VHS tape . For his role of Parzival in a production by Dieter Dorn , Theater heute magazine named him actor of the year in 1982 .

Parallel to his work at the theater, Habeck has appeared as a guest actor in numerous television series since 1970 , including in Der Kommissar , Tatort , Lokaltermin , Die Schwarzwaldklinik , Alarm für Cobra 11 - Die Autobahnpolizei , Der Bulle von Tölz , Der Alte , In allerfreund and Lindenstrasse . In addition to Otto Bolesch and Gudrun Mebs , Michael Habeck was the main actor in the 13-part children's series The fabulous Koo family in the magic box , which was produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk and broadcast in 1978. Michael Habeck has been known in German-speaking countries since 1967 for his voice, which predestined him for the synchronization of puppets and cartoon characters as well as comedic roles. Among other things, he was used for the new dubbing of numerous films in the series Lachen Sie mit Stan and Olli as the German voice of comedian Oliver Hardy .

For years Michael Habeck was present in television productions for children through the characters Oswin in the preschool series Rappelkiste (1973–1984) and Ernie in Sesamstraße , whom he lent his voice from 2001 after Gerd Duwner and Peter Kirchberger . After Duwner's death in 1996, Habeck replaced him in other roles, including Barney Rubble in the Feuerstein family . Habeck spoke other characters as the green clay man Friedrich in the six-part children's series Luzie, der Schreck der Straße (1980), as Fozzie Bär in the 107-part animated series Muppet Babies (1984–1991) or as Mr Rabbit in When the Animals Left the Forest ( 1993-1996). In the animated series The Simpsons , he dubbed the roles of Chief Wiggum in seasons two and three, Dr. Nick in season two and caretaker Willie in season three. In 1994 he also lent his voice to the little ghost in the story of the same name in Germany's most famous puppet theater, the Augsburger Puppenkiste, and in 2002 to the hamster Humphrey in the animated series Timm Thaler.

As a dubbing actor, Habeck was also heard in several situation comedies, including for Danny DeVito as Louie De Palma in the Sat.1 language version of the 112-part sitcom Taxi and for Earl Hindman as Wilson Wilson Jr. in the RTL language version of the eight Season-long sitcom Listen who's hammering . In cinema productions, Habeck took on the dubbing of the Hobbit Sam Gamdschie in the first film adaptation of the Tolkien novel The Lord of the Rings (1978), Deep Roy as the tiny in The Neverending Story (1984), John Leguizamo as the clown / violator in Spawn ( 1997) and Toby Jones as Dobby House Elf in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010).

Radio plays

In addition to his work in the dubbing studio, Habeck was active as a spokesman for school , children's and youth radio as well as for general radio broadcasting by public and private broadcasters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 1965 . He was mainly involved in radio play productions for Bavarian Radio , for example in World Champion by Ria Endres (1991), The Indoor Fountain by Jens Sparschuh (1997), Boy Wonder by James R. Baker (1999), Doctor Faustus by Thomas Mann (2007) or The Abolition of Species by Dietmar Dath (2011). In August 2007 Michael Habeck was last used for the synchronization of Oliver Hardy in the diamond heist in Hollywood .

In February 2008 he played the grandfather Friedrich des wannabe Elvis Thommy ( Sascha Schmitz ) in the comedy Ossi's Eleven .

Michael Habeck died on February 4, 2011 after a short, serious illness.

Honors

In 1984 he received the Adolf Grimme Prize for his work in the children's program Rappelkiste .
