Against the Wind was a German television series that was produced from 1994 to 1997. The shooting took place in Sankt Peter-Ording . After the end of the series, an offshoot called The Beach Clique was produced.
The pilot of the series was shot back in 1993. The series was shot until September 1997.
It was first broadcast on January 11, 1995 on ARD .

The best friends Nik Andersen and Sven Westermann not only have their hobby in common, windsurfing , but become brothers after the wedding of Nik's mother Christine and Sven's father John. Christine runs the Pension Godewind and John also owns a hotel where Nik works for some time after a surfing accident. However, he quickly gives up this job and joins Sven in advertising. He also gives surf lessons. The two boys experience all kinds of adventures on the beach of Sankt Peter-Ording together with their clique (Tjard, Boje, Lonzo, Tanja, Timo, Dennis and Sascha) and train hard to achieve their goal of becoming a professional surfer.
When Nik injured himself in a surf contest, his future as a surfer is in danger. It is also not easy for Sven to make his dream come true, as his father would prefer to see him in the hotel industry as well. Nevertheless, he supports his son, while Christine would like to see Nik without a surfboard at all. Not only the competitive pressure in surfing competitions, but also love stories put the friendship between Nik and Sven to the test. So both fall in love with Nik's physiotherapist Britta, who then first hooks up with Sven and finally with Nik.
After the double wedding of Christine and John as well as the pizza parlor owner Rocky and his girlfriend Martina took place, Nik separates from Britta and she leaves Sankt Peter-Ording. Sven's new friend Sonja dies in a motorcycle accident. Nik sees Sarah again in Hawaii, whom he met earlier in Sankt Peter-Ording and brings her back to Sankt Peter-Ording. Together with the other girls in the clique, Julia, Sven's new friend, and Martina, she founds the local radio station, Radio SPO .
Another stroke of fate befell the Westermann family when one day Christine does not return from a walk on the beach and never shows up again. Thereupon the family hired nanny Melissa, who from then on takes care of little Stine. Nik and Sven are again abandoned by their friends, but quickly fall in love again. Yvonne is new to the city together with lifeguard Patrick, who is also an excellent surfer and competitor for Nik and Sven. She becomes Nik's girlfriend while Sven falls in love with Vicky. Vicky soon becomes pregnant from Sven, but is not sure whether Sven is up to the role of father. Then she travels to South Africa without telling Sven about her fatherhood. Nik soon separates from Yvonne again. Yvonne then leaves St. Peter-Ording again. Patrick, however, remains and becomes part of the clique. When Sven finds out that he is the father of Vicky's child, he travels to Vicky in South Africa and is reconciled with her. The two return to St.Peter-Ording and their son Klaas is born. Meanwhile, John falls in love with Melissa and the two become a couple.
