action

When Norbert and Monika wake up in bed in the morning, Monika notices that she has missed a riding lesson. In the presence of Monika, Norbert calls his old love Ulla, disguising this as a phone call with his parents. As soon as Norbert comes to his workplace in a planning office, he first suffers a stitch. Then boss Boehm seriously confronts him because Norbert was late. Norbert openly confesses his stomach ailments. Ulla, who takes her place of work opposite him, tells him that the four (Ulla, Monika, Otto and Norbert) should do something together. So the four of them go to the Munich six-day race . At the snack bar, Norbert asks for sugar for the sausage, and when the stilt is served afterwards, Norbert collapses in the toilet room and sees the hustle and bustle in eerie tones.

Norbert goes to the doctor the next morning. At first he cannot determine anything, but later he feels an alleged muscle tension in Norbert and also diagnoses that Norbert has a blood sag like menstruation. In the evening Ulla visits Norbert and wants to sleep with him. Norbert's stomach starts to hurt, but Ulla doesn't take his pain seriously. The doctor now realizes that the "strange thing" has grown and Norbert is sent for an X-ray . However, the x-ray doctors cannot determine anything exactly and send him for an ultrasound examination . There the doctor initially suspects a defect in the device, and the day after the next the doctor can't believe his eyes and Norbert is sent to the chief doctor. He looks at him from top to bottom and makes the diagnosis that Norbert is pregnant and will be "mother". The thing is presented as a unique medical miracle. The chief doctor also asks Norbert who the father is supposed to be, to which he has no right answer, and thus it becomes clear that the roles are exactly wrong.

Norbert is now embarrassed like never before. He gets drunk in the pub and openly says there that he is going to have a child, whereupon the men laugh hard. At the playground, Norbert now turns to the children, and Otto and Ulla visit him at home, to whom he also confesses that he is pregnant. They also mock him. Norbert also admits the affair with Ulla and throws Otto and Ulla out. The chief doctor offers Norbert to have the child aborted, but he refuses. Norbert now gets strange cravings in relation to his diet, whereupon Monika begins to persuade him to stop. While walking in the park, he tells her that he is pregnant, but Monika also reacts viciously. At home, because of Monika's jealousy about Ulla, the food burns, and the two go to a restaurant, where Norbert consumes all the desserts. Meanwhile, Monika was in the hospital for a thorough examination, and nothing had come of it.

On Norbert's next visit to the chief physician, he confesses to the subject of breastfeeding that he doesn't even have chest hair that his child could eat. Because his stomach is getting bigger and bigger, he gets a practical Djellaba , which he now always wears as clothing. He had his small car converted so that he could get in comfortably and drove to his parents' house in northern Germany. They are happy about his visit, but the father is not happy about Norbert's Djellaba. First he reveals his pregnancy to his father and thinks it is amazing. In the company, boss Böhm is also negatively surprised by Norbert's clothes and asks why. Norbert lets him guess what is wrong with him, and Böhm loses his patience and yells at him, whereupon Norbert sits there sadly. On the bus, Norbert is also teased about his clothes. Monika first makes a final confession of love to Norbert, but the next day she leaves him.

Otto reconciles with Norbert, and Ulla also expelled Otto. In the pub he meets a journalist who offers to make him a man known worldwide. So Norbert shoots commercials and makes songs. Now Norbert appears in a television show where Gottschalk interviews him as a presenter. Afterwards, Norbert is honored with gifts by his colleague in the company. When Norbert wants to have himself shaved at the hairdresser's, labor begins and he is taken to the hospital to have a caesarean section. But as soon as he is at the operating table, he wakes up from his big dream. Monika confesses to him that she is pregnant, whereby Norbert is still walking in his dream.

background

A similar story was filmed in 1973 under the title Help, my husband is pregnant with Marcello Mastroianni and Catherine Deneuve . Seitenstechen is based on the novel of the same name by Bernd Späth from 1981. In 1994 the film Junior was released , in which Arnold Schwarzenegger went through a pregnancy. Author Bernd Späth accused the producers of this film of plagiarism , but lost the relevant process.

Reviews

The critics of cinema.de are of the opinion that director Pröttel should have prosecuted himself, "for causing public nuisance ...".

Filmecho / Filmwoche took credit for Mike Krüger's understatement that “this unbelievable story is bearable”. This as well as the fresh naturalness of Susanne Uhlen and the subtle direction turned a "not necessarily appetizing grotesque" into a "cranky comedy".
