Hildegard Grzimek

Hildegard Grzimek , née Hildegard Prüfer , (born January 10, 1911 in Kattowitz , Upper Silesia , † May 5, 1984 in Kelkheim (Taunus) ) was a German author .

She was the daughter of the meta Fritsche and the Study Council Max auditors. After the formerly German city of Katowice was assigned to Poland in 1921 and the German schools were closed, the family moved to Neisse . Hildegard Prüfer was trained as a consultation assistant at a dentist for a few months . On May 17, 1930, she married the veterinary student Bernhard Grzimek (1909–1987) in Wittenberg ; the couple moved to Berlin-Wilmersdorf and had three sons: Rochus (* 1931), Michael (1934–1959) and the adopted son Thomas (1950–1980).

In her book in my heart many animals have space she wrote: "I felt it was very lucky that I boy next to my sons apes could raise. I didn't notice a big difference in behavior between human and ape children. Both were, depending on the situation, funny and exuberant or sad and in a bad mood. And all of them needed motherly love and a lot of understanding. "

In 1973 Hildegard Grzimek divorced her husband; he moved in with his widowed daughter-in-law Erika, whom he married in 1978.
