history

After the lower village had been relocated due to repeated floods, only the church and cemetery were close to the river. After another major flood in 1764, today's church with the patron St. Clemens was built . This was always the patron saint of the previous church a relic, but only came into the new church in 1770. In the Upper Village stood since time immemorial, a St. Sebastian Chapel, which was also dilapidated. After decades of struggle for a new building, the flood in 1764 brought the decision. The last church service was celebrated on November 3, 1765 in the old church, which was once the mother church of St. Johanneskirche in Waldshut. Your stones were used in the new building.

In 1766 construction management was transferred to the Waldshut master builder Ferdinand Weizenegger . The St. Sebastian Chapel was demolished in 1767. In 1768 the shell was completed. Gotthard Hilzinger created the ceiling frescoes, in the choir at the expense of Prince Abbot Martin Gerbert the disciples of Emaus, in the nave at the expense of the community the apostles and the martyrdom of St. Clement, above the organ St. Sebastian. The side altars are endowed by the von Roll families . On July 19, 1775, the Church of Auxiliary Bishop of Constance, was Johann Nepomuk von Hornstein , consecrated . The church was in need of repair as early as 1790, the necessary construction work took place under Abbot Berthold Rottler in 1802.
