In all friendship (IAF) is a weekly German television series running in the first , which tells the stories about the staff of the fictional hospital Sachsenklinik in Leipzig . On May 11, 2020, the MDR announced an extension to at least 2023 (seasons 24-26).

The most successful German hospital series to date was awarded the Golden Hen in 2008 and 2018 , at the Bambi Awards in 2014 and the German Audio Film Award in 2018 . Due to the consistently high audience ratings of over 5 million viewers (80% of them women), Das Erste launched an offshoot on January 22nd, 2015 under the title In allerfreund - The young doctors . On November 1, 2018, another offshoot started with In allerfreund - The nurses .

General

The series is produced by Saxonia Media Filmproduktion Leipzig on behalf of the ARD subsidiary Degeto Film . The series started on October 26, 1998. In the meantime, over 900 episodes have been produced in 22 seasons.

At first, the series focused on the three main characters, Dr. Roland Heilmann, Dr. Maia Dietz, who receives her doctorate in the course of the series, and Dr. Achim Kreutzer, the action today is mainly carried by a larger regular cast of around 15 to 18 recurring roles.

The roles in the series are often cast by actors who were already seen in the cinema and television in the GDR . Many people who were already employed by DEFA and television in the GDR also found work behind the camera . The directors Jürgen Brauer , Bernhard Stephan , Celino Bleiweiß , Klaus Gendries , Peter Vogel and Peter Hill , the cameraman Jürgen Heimlich , the costume designer Christine Zartmann and the outfitter Rolf Donath dealt with the series.

Although the series is set in Saxony, the Saxon dialect is practically absent, only the figure of the caretaker Ottmar Wolf ( Tom Pauls ), who was introduced for a short period of time, displayed the typical dialect. In addition, individual extras (e.g. Michael Tempelhof) are clearly synchronized. The ARD justifies the freedom of dialect with a better marketability of the series throughout Germany. In supporting roles such as Roland Heilmann's grandson Jonas, however, the Saxon sounds.

The actors Elisabeth Volkmann , Brigitte Mira , Hans Clarin , Günter Pfitzmann , Fred Delmare , Horst Drinda , Hendrikje Fitz , Dieter Bellmann and Ursula Karusseit had their last television roles in this series.

The sudden death of Hendrikje Fitz was followed by the serial death of her role Pia Heilmann . This was announced by her husband Thomas Rühmann, alias Roland Heilmann, at a memorial evening for the late actress. The 745th episode Void , in which Pia Heilmann's death was discussed, ran on October 18, 2016 .

To say goodbye to Dieter Bellmann as Prof. Simoni , episode 833 In the best company was remembered in November 2018 of his life's work. Jutta Kammann returned as Ingrid Rischke and Holger Daemgen as Dr. Achim Kreutzer is back as a guest actor.

Significantly, the address of the film hospital was "Bad Lausicker Straße", as you can occasionally see on letterheads when you look closely. The interior shots were filmed in exhibition hall 14 (formerly the exhibition rooms of Carl Zeiss Jena) on the old exhibition grounds in Leipzig.

Since episode 125, the interior shots have been filmed in studios 1 (apartments) and 2 (clinic) of Media City Leipzig in the immediate vicinity of the MDR site . Since then, the area around Media City has been used as a location for the outdoor shots. The studio buildings in the extended Steinstrasse now function as a “hospital”, with “Surgical Clinic - House B” above the entrance. At the previous building, "House A" was written above the entrance.

During the events surrounding the merger with the “Marienhospital” at the end of the 11th season, the outdoor shots took place in the “Marienhospital” on the grounds of the St. Georg Clinic in Leipzig .

Trivia

  • Several later leading and supporting actors in the series worked as guest stars in other roles even before they started.
  • From episode 125 to episode 711, since the interior shots have been produced in Media City Leipzig , the same room with different furnishings has been used for the offices of the clinic director, the chief physician and the administrative director (season 18: Alexander Weber's office). Since season 19, episode 712, this room has been used for the clinic director's office (since season 19: Dr. Roland Heilmann) and as a doctor's room.
  • In Studio 1 there are 8 apartments on 975 m² (as of 2019)
  • Matthias Koeberlin played the son of Joachim Kretzer, who was only six years older than him, in early episodes .

criticism

The series has been criticized several times for illegal surreptitious advertising for drugs .

In addition, the 300th episode was criticized by animal rights activists, the Federal Veterinary Association and the media because it refers too much to a current event. In the episode, a boy (chief physician Jonas Heilmann) is admitted to the Sachsenklinik who was infected with bird flu from a parrot and was sick with it. Critics said that this only fueled unnecessary fear in the population and called for the episode to be canceled. In addition, this is an unnecessary fear because domestic birds do not have an opportunity to catch bird flu. The MDR rejected the criticism. One was sure not to stir up any uncertainty.

Offshoot

In all friendship - the young doctors

In July 2014, the MDR announced the production of an offshoot with the name In allerfreund - The young doctors . The focus of the series is Dr. Niklas Ahrend ( Roy Peter Link ), which at the beginning of the series a senior physician post at the John-Thal -Klinikum takes in Erfurt and thus the Sachsenklinik leaves, and five interns . The production has been taking place since autumn 2014, the weekly broadcast on Thursday evening began on January 22, 2015.

In all friendship - the nurses

In April 2018, the MDR announced the production of another offshoot called In All Friendship - The Nurses . The series is intended to deal with the experiences of the nurses at the Volkmann Clinic in Halle (Saale). The broadcast of the planned eight episodes took place in autumn 2018 on the broadcasting slot of In allerfreund - The young doctors .

Crossover

Occasionally, crossover episodes of In aller Freundes form a connecting link in the common series universe with the ARD series Veterinarian Dr. Mertens , cheerful to fatal: Ex-files , Schloss Einstein , Marienhof , Verbotene Liebe , Lindenstrasse , The Fallers , Dahoam is Dahoam and the spin-offs In all Friendship - The Young Doctors and In All Friendship - The Nurses .

Crossover within the series

In each of the first two film specials there was a crossover with another series produced by the MDR: In What really matters , Dr. Susanne Mertens ( Elisabeth Lanz ) from the television series Veterinarian Dr. Mertens made a guest appearance. In Up to the Last Second , the main actors Katzer ( Isabell Gerschke ) and Hundt ( Oliver Franck ) of the Ex-Files series meet the employees of the Sachsenklinik : When they are passing through Leipzig and have to visit the clinic, they are kidnapped that they take over spontaneously.

In September 2014, as part of the 45-minute individual episodes, there was a merger between In allerfreund and the ARD soap opera Verbotene Liebe . In the 660th episode Bad Blood , Miriam Lahnstein and Sebastian Schlemmer appear in their roles from Forbidden Love as patients at the Saxony Clinic.

In episode 793 Out of sight, out of mind? (November 28, 2017) there was a crossover between In allerfreund and Lindenstrasse . The Lindenstrasse role, Dr. Iris Brooks during the return trip from vacation and is being treated in the Saxony clinic. She is accompanied by her daughter Lara Brooks. There Iris meets her former friend Maria Weber. Iris broke off contact with Maria because she had spent a night with Maria's ex-husband Alexander Weber.

Since the Lindenstrasse is in the same series universe as the Fallers , the Fallers can also be assigned to the series universe of In allerfreund. The Fallers are in the same series universe as Dahoam is Dahoam , which then also belong to the common universe.

Crossover in other series

In episodes 249 to 252 of the children's series Schloss Einstein (broadcast from June 14 to July 5, 2003), the Sachsenklinik was a place of action. In the episodes Arzu Bazman, Thomas Rühmann, Johannes Steck and Ursula Karusseit can be seen in their roles from In all friendship .

Saxony Clinic and Johannes Thal Clinic

In episode 668 (with a bang) the administrative director and future clinic director of the Leipzig Saxony clinic Sarah Marquardt and the chief secretary Barbara Grigoleit ( Uta Schorn ) visit the commercial director, Wolfgang Berger, of the Johannes Thal clinic . This introduced the new storyline of the spin-off In all friendship - The young doctors in a backdoor pilot . In episodes 671 (old and new friends) and 672 (pie) occurs Robert Giggenbach in his role Dr. Harald Loosen from In all friendship - The young doctors . He supports his protégé Dr. Niklas Ahrend in a difficult situation and ultimately offers him a senior physician position in the Erfurt hospital. In further episodes, characters from the Saxon Clinic meet colleagues in the Johannes Thal Clinic in Erfurt and vice versa.

Saxony Clinic and Volkmann Clinic

In episode 828 (Sounds of the Future) , the head nurse of the Volkmann Clinic Alexandra Lundqvist ( Friederike Linke ) visits her old friend Arzu and asks her if she wants to pass on her knowledge as a lecturer at her clinic a few days a month. Since she has to decide immediately, she does so without talking to her husband Philipp about it beforehand. This introduced the new storyline of the spin-off In all friendship - The nurses in a backdoor pilot.
