Life and accomplishments

Horst Günter Marx was born in Caputh near Potsdam in 1955 . He discovered his passion for acting at a young age, so he played in a student amateur group at the age of ten and later wrote his first dramatic texts at the age of twelve. Nevertheless, after having passed university entrance qualification, Marx initially decided to train as a toolmaker , followed by a one-year traineeship in journalism at the German TV broadcaster DFF . In 1978 he began his three-year acting course at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in East Berlin . His first engagement took him to the Magdeburg Theater from 1981 to 1982 . After just one season he moved to the Vorpommersche Landesbühne , to an ensemble of young actors that formed in 1982 around the controversial director Frank Castorf in the GDR. During the short existence of the “Anklamer Schauspielgruppe”, Marx played in Frank Castorf's early productions such as “Othello”, “Tartüff” and “The Order”, but also worked with directors such as Herbert König and Peter Brasch. In 1984 the ensemble was dissolved by the SED authorities because its artistic work was in stark contrast to the socialist cultural policy of the GDR. In the same year, after applying to leave the Federal Republic of Germany, Marx was arrested and "deported" to the West after an 18-month prison term.

From 1986 to 1988 he worked as an actor at Theater Basel , at the same time he started his film career in Jeanine Meerapfel's Die Verliebten . In 1987 Marx got the male lead in the successful movie Die Venusfalle by director Robert van Ackeren at the side of Sonja Kirchberger . With this strip, the artist achieved his breakthrough as an actor and was awarded the Max Ophüls Prize for best young actor in 1989. Since then, Marx has worked for cinema and television productions as well as for various theaters, such as the Volksbühne Berlin or the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus .

From 2006 to 2008 he was also "Klaus Mertens" in the series Veterinarian Dr. To see Mertens .
