action

Georg Wilsberg has to surrender his driver's license for a month due to driving at high speed. In front of the police headquarters he meets Lea Sonnenborn, a former classmate from the Ratsgymnasium, with whom he graduated from high school in 1977. Today she runs a ballet studio, but is worried about her son Marc, who has not returned home for two days. So she asks Wilsberg for his help in finding the boy.

In the meantime, Ekki receives the order from his superior Grabowski to carry out a two-day career counseling at the Goethe Gymnasium in order to familiarize the students with the duties of the tax office. At school he runs into Wilsberg, who asks Marc's classmate about his whereabouts. In doing so, he finds out that Mina Seeberg recently separated from him and is now with Tobias Höcker. This setback is said to have exacerbated Marc's aggressive outbursts of anger, which he has shown since his parents separated and his father committed suicide. The traces that Wilsberg finds in the search for Marc lead him to Münster-Mecklenbeck . On the airfield of the flying school there, he witnesses how the young people engage in an illegal race with their sports cars. He also finds Marc on the premises, who was knocked down by a shotgun charge and wrapped in a tarpaulin. As soon as Wilsberg discovered the body, he was knocked down from behind by Steffen Weber, who had to fear that the alarmed police might discover his drugs, some of which were obtained from Venlo and some of which he had grown himself, in the hangar .

When Wilsberg regained consciousness, Commissioner Anna Springer and her colleague Overbeck arrived at the airfield, but there was no trace of the sports car or the corpse. Only a burned-out car, which was driven by Tobias Höcker, was left behind. The officers find a charred corpse in the trunk, which can later be identified as Marc Sonnenborn based on a comparison of the teeth. It turns out that Marc was dead two days before he was burned.

In his further investigations, Wilsberg finds that Mina Seeberg was publicly defamed in social networks after her separation from Marc . The increasingly violent Marc, whose aggression was directed indiscriminately against his parents, classmates, but also teachers, should, according to his mother, start therapy to get his behavior under control again. His school performance, which had deteriorated due to the aggressive derailments, was used by his stepfather, the lawyer Steiner, as an opportunity to put Marc's teacher under pressure through a targeted legal dispute. Classmates, too, have lately tended to legalize school problems with their teachers. When Ekki tries to mediate a physical abuse between students during his career counseling, he is also threatened with a lawsuit that could mean the end of his career as a civil servant. Ekki succeeds in avoiding this problem by skilfully conveying to the student that there is a possibility of having his father's hotels decree a tax audit.

Ludger Schmitz breaks into Tobias' parents' house in order to steal incriminating material from Tobias' room or at least to delete it. These include videos of violence and photos in which Ludger can be seen. One of these videos also shows the German teacher Bruges, who is pushed, humiliated and sexually harassed by several masked students. Meanwhile, Wilsberg receives the file with suspected violent criminals from Overbeck. He recognizes his attacker who knocked him down at the airfield. Without reporting his discovery to the police, he makes his way to Steffen Weber's farm. There he discovers that Ludger Schmitz is a handyman in Steffen Weber's drug business. Wilsberg surprises the two when they want to make the existing marijuana stocks disappear. He is caught and tied up by Steffen at gunpoint. Only the arriving officers around Overbeck can free Wilsberg and arrest both Steffen and Ludger.

The teacher Manfred Schulzendorf, friend of Mrs. Bruges, is found by Wilsberg in his girlfriend's garden house. He confesses to having shot Marc to make life more bearable for Mrs Bruges, who tried to kill herself with sleeping pills. Since he did not succeed in doing this, he threatens to shoot himself with a rifle. Overbeck manages to surprise Manfred Schulzendorf so that he can overwhelm and disarm the teacher. Schulzendorf is also arrested.

After Overbeck allowed himself verbal derailments several times in the course of the investigation, Commissioner Springer ordered him to give a lecture on the subject of "rhetoric of criminal prosecution" at the Goethe School.

criticism

According to the verdict of the Lexicon of International Films , Halbstark is a “humorous (TV series) crime thriller with likeable characters”.

The German Press Agency writes that Halbstark is “tried and tested food”. "A great many threads of action" are to be brought together, "some humorous elements" are included. The plot seems “a bit overloaded”, as it deals with “cyberbullying, drug deals, illegal car races, SMS addiction, cell phone movies of excesses of violence” and “leaves no youth cliché out”. “Still, fans will love it,” she concluded.

Rainer Tittelbach says, “'Halbstark' is a 'Wilsberg' episode that has it all: crime thriller, comedy, a little drama, a little social reality. The swing between the different pitches works extremely well. Well built, thematically complex. ”Among the actors, Tittelbach praised both the regular cast in the series and the young actors in the episode. The "well-played film impresses with its tightly constructed, closely-knit narrative structure, in which (almost) everything ultimately relates to one another and in which the coincidences that are common in comedy thrillers hardly have to be taken into account." Screenwriter Martin Eigner also received praise for the “dramaturgical craft”, as his story “also impresses with the way in which social references and 'anti-social' trends are integrated”. The film received 4 out of 6 stars from Tittelbach.

The editorial team of TV Spielfilm is of the opinion that the tough is “typical Wilsberg's Kalauerkost”, which is only interrupted by “annoying appearances by the police jester Overbeck”. As a consequence, the young actors have "unfortunately all the less opportunity to show their talent"

Prisma sees in Halbstark "a critical thriller on a largely hushed-up topic: teachers who have lost their function as a person of authority." Another problem area of young people is addressed with "cyber bullying via social networks". Prisma awarded 3 out of 5 possible points.

The teleschau media service is pleased that Halbstark is dealing with a “hot topic” that is being ignored by politics. The thriller becomes really “interesting” “in its secondary scenes”. The media service sums up, the "socially critical crime thriller is rich in moments that are worth discussing, even if it makes it a bit very easy in some places".
