Works
The Wilsberg novels

In 1990 Kehrer's first detective novel And The Dead Are Allowed To Rest . The main character Georg Wilsberg, whose eventful private life and development are not neglected in the series, is a failed lawyer and stamp / coin dealer in Münster and also works as a private detective . In the opinion of Kehrer, he is a typical Münsteraner, because many people live in the city who, after completing their studies, work in a non-specialist area. With this, he represents a personality who would not fit in with other cities, as it characterizes a guy who got stuck in Münster after his studies. The choice to choose a broken character as the protagonist, Kehrer explained by saying that these characters are always more interesting. The novels with their local flavor have sometimes adopted models or motifs from reality. Kehrer has already been sued twice by people from Münster who saw themselves as role models for book characters. In both cases, Kehrer was acquitted.
No further Wilsberg novels have been published since 2007 , as, according to the author, as the television series becomes more known, it becomes more and more difficult to place the novels as an independent work next to the film adaptations, although there are further ideas for Wilsberg novels . On October 20, 2015, after a long time, another Wilsberg novel was published with the title Wilsberg - A bit of murder must be .
All Wilsberg novels have been published by Grafit Verlag in Dortmund .

Wilsberg on TV
In 1995 the first Wilsberg novel was filmed for ZDF with Joachim Król in the title role; Leonard Lansink took on this role in the following episodes . So far, 68 (as of April 2020) films of around 90 minutes each have been made, with the TV productions becoming detached from the books over time. Only seven TV films are based on Kehrer's novels. In some cases, Kehrer wrote the scripts with an eScript team; in still other cases, other authors wrote the scripts. The TV-Wilsberg - owner of an antiquarian bookshop in the film - has now completely broken away from its book counterpart . Several characters who are part of the TV series' regular staff, such as his friends Alex, Ekki, Manni and Commissioner Springer, do not appear in the novels at all. Jürgen Kehrer has taken on small extras in some of the TV films .

In addition to the Wilsberg novels, Kehrer has published other crime novels without series characters, historical Münster crime thrillers and a non-fiction book about murders in Münster, and also designed the Münster quiz. He also writes scripts.
