Night Shift - We Are the Police is a German television film by Lars Becker from 2009. The seventh part of the ZDF crime series Nachtschicht premiered on October 1, 2009 at the Hamburg Film Festival and was first broadcast on January 18, 2010 on ZDF.

The KDD team is dealing with three different cases this time, all of which are linked at the end of the night shift.

action

Erich Bo Erichsen and Lisa Brenner from the permanent detective service are alerted by concerned citizens of a social housing. When they arrived at the named residential building, they found traces of blood in the entrance and ring the doorbell at the apartment door concerned. However, there they “only” find one privately kept alligator, which now requires 5 kg of meat a day, which explains the blood traces. Although the animal did not attack or injure anyone, Erichsen had it taken to a rescue center without further discussion. The criminal psychologist Lisa Brenner is approached on this occasion by little Jennifer from the neighboring apartment because she is worried about her mother Rosa, who was beaten by her ex-husband, Freddy Kunkel. However, Rosa Diaz refuses to report the man.

At the other end of town, the auto mechanics Kraut and Hoppek, as police officers in disguise, check vehicles and collect drivers who are too fast. They notice two men disguised as women. Exactly these two, behind whom the petty criminal Freddy Kunkel and his accomplice Axelrod hide, attack the luxury jeweler De Keyser shortly after and rob him. When the police are notified, the two with diamonds worth 25 million euros and two hostages are already on the run. However, the two girls release them very soon and give them one of the diamonds they have just stolen as compensation for pain and silence.

The two fake police officers are now approached by little Jennifer while they are taking a break in a snack bar. Like Lisa Brenner before, she asks her to protect her mother because Freddy Kunkel is urging his ex-wife to return to him. Kraut and Hoppek are forced to continue playing their role and follow the girl home. A nasty surprise awaits her there, because Kunkel shoots the two of them as they approach the apartment. Hoppek is fatally hit. The alarmed KDD team arrives and soon realizes that Kunkel is the jewel robber they are looking for. He threatens to cause a bloodbath if they don't leave him alone. Lisa Brenner tries to calm him down and also to buy time. Meanwhile, Erichsen can reach Jennifer from the neighboring apartment in her children's room and bring her to safety. Then he penetrates further through to Kunkel and arrests him. In the search for his accomplice, Axelrod can soon be identified. It turns out that the saleswoman Elaine, who was taken hostage, is his girlfriend and who gave the two of them the tip with the robbery. Elaine is then arrested and reveals Axelrod's fence during interrogation. When accessing the Orloff fence, Axelrod takes a policeman hostage and shoots Orloff to emphasize his threat, whereupon he is shot by Erichsen. After it turned out that the two supposed colleagues were not real, the police commissioner asks to keep silent about this embarrassing matter for as long as possible. However, Kraut cannot avoid being charged with official presumption.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “'Nachtschicht' is the most innovative German crime series of the 2000s. The 24-hour storytelling principle hasn't worn out a bit. It is the original way in which the various stories are interwoven that makes the 7th KDD mission so special. Gripping, funny, over-the-top. And Barbara Auer smiles. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm were of the opinion: “Despite hardships, things are mostly humorous here.” Conclusion: “Little realism, but a lot of fun”.
