action

Bruno Markowitz, a former Foreign Legionnaire, belongs to a group of people smugglers and regularly drives a van to South Tyrol to bring refugees from Africa to Germany. This time he gets into a traffic control and although it is only about a speed limit, the refugees get scared and leave the vehicle in Germany. He can only bring some of his “passengers” back together with great difficulty. Two girls run away from him again and want to get into the car with two men at a gas station and drive on alone so that they are no longer at the mercy of the human traffickers at their destination. To get the two back, Markowitz physically has to deal with the passenger of the car and breaks his nose in the process. So damaged, he and his buddy are noticed at the next police check and since the two were traveling with a stolen car, they now have to answer for car theft and illegal possession of weapons. So Herold and Müller end up at the station, where the night shift of the Hamburg criminal investigation service takes care of them.

The team had just received a notification of a domestic violence case they had to deal with after being contacted by a concerned carer. Since the woman concerned lives illegally in Germany, she does not dare to report the man. Lisa Brenner thinks it is possible that the woman will get a residence permit and gives her hope. Marie France works as a domestic helper and nanny for the de Graaf family, who, after an initial questioning, deny that they did violence to their employees. As a result of the allegations, Daniela de Graaf becomes suspicious of her husband, whom she claims to be infidelity, and demands that Marie France go away. Julius de Graaf brings the young woman back to his “supplier”, from where she is to be taken out of the country.

The two petty criminals Herold and Müller are further interrogated in the police station. In the stolen car, the officers found a woman's handbag that the two refugees had left lying around. In a photo in it, Brenner and Erichsen recognize Marie France, whom they had only just met and become suspicious. Herold and Müller now describe what had happened at the gas station. Lisa Brenner and Mimi Hu then visit the de Graaf family again, but they no longer meet Marie France.

Driver Markowitz is now delivering his "passengers" to trafficker Charles Starek, but is also worried about one of the young girls: Lola Obasi. She had told him on the way that she was looking for her sister who was working illegally here in Germany. On the same evening, he and Franz Pirroni, another driver, are supposed to bring Marie France to Denmark. Since he can use every euro, he accepts the order. Before they can leave, Erichsen becomes aware of Marie France's hiding place and when he appears there with Mimi Hu, Pirroni goes on the offensive. He forces the officers to put down their weapons and locks them in a basement room. Markowitz notes that the action is getting out of hand and that his financiers are planning to kill Marie France and him too, because they too are starting to get uncomfortable. To save himself and Marie France, he shoots Pirroni. Aware of the scope of his actions, he contacts the KDD and makes an appointment with Erichsen, who is now back at the station. He offers Erichsen to hand over those responsible for the human trafficking ring to him if he ensures that Marie France and her sister Lola get a permanent residence permit. Before Erichsen can keep his word, Lola Obasi is shot after trying to escape the sphere of human trafficking. Charles Starek and his partner Clemente are determined to kill Markowitz and his protégé Marie France. After Starek shoots his renegade driver ice cold and takes Marie France hostage, he is shot by Erichsen, who has meanwhile arrived, and Clement is also arrested by the police. Charges are also being brought against Julius de Graaf and his wife.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach-TV rated the episode positively and wrote: “The 10th 'night shift' varies the 12-hour dramaturgy on the subject of human trafficking. The story about a rough man who no longer likes to look away doesn't necessarily have to be told in one night. Lars Becker can afford to slow down the first half of the film. The second half is all the more intense. Conclusion: a successful mix of themed films and genres, a good flow of dramaturgy and no corpse for a long time. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm mean: "Despite inconsistencies, Becker delivers an intense ensemble drama with strong scenes, actors and the correct message." Conclusion: "Gripping crime thriller against a bitter background."

The film was released on DVD along with Night Shift - One Murder Too Much .
