Clemens Schick (born February 15, 1972 in Tübingen ) is a German actor .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1992, Schick studied at the Hölderlin-Gymnasium in Stuttgart, initially at the Academy for Performing Arts (AdK) in Ulm . After a year studying acting, he left the Academy and went as a 22-year-old eight months in a monastery of Taize community . He then studied at the Berlin School of Drama . He financed his studies with part-time jobs as a landscape gardener, doorman and waiter in restaurants and pubs in Berlin-Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg .

He received engagements at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden , the Schauspiel Frankfurt , the Schauspielhaus Wien, the Sophiensaelen , on Kampnagel , the Staatstheater Stuttgart , the Schauspielhaus Zürich , the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg , the Schauspielhaus Cologne and the Schaubühne Berlin , where he played Orestes in Hugo played by Hofmannsthal's play Elektra and the Werschinin in Three Sisters .

In 2001, Schick was the model for US photographer Nan Goldin in Paris . From 2002 to 2006 he was part of the ensemble of the Schauspielhaus Hannover , where he appeared in Johann Kresnik's directorial work Peer Gynt and, above all, in The Cat on a Hot Tin Roof , directed by Christina Paulhofer .

In addition to his theater work, he shoots for film and television. In the 21st James Bond film Casino Royale (2006), Schick played the henchman Kratt of the film villain Le Chiffre ( Mads Mikkelsen ).

The opening film of “Perspektive Deutsches Kino” at the Berlinale 2007 was Upright Standing by Hannah Schweier , in which Schick plays the leading role of Joe. In summer 2007, Schick was also at the Salzburg Festival in Hofmannsthal's Everyman as death to see, as in the playing season 2008. Schick is a member of the Federal Drama Association (BFFS) and, since August 13, 2016, of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).

Public engagement

Schick took part in the “Alliance against Castor 2010” and signed an appeal by artists that was printed in numerous daily newspapers, calling on the population to take part in the protests against the Castor transport and the extension of the service life of German nuclear power plants .

In 2009, Schick visited the German ISAF contingent at the Masar-e Sharif ( Camp Marmal ), Kunduz and Feyzabad locations in Afghanistan . He was accompanied by a camera team. The report by Jobst Knigge ran under the title The Troop Entertainer: Clemens Schick plays theater in Afghanistan . The actor dealt with Bill Gates in the solo program shown . In 2011 and 2012, too, Schick continued to support German ISAF troops in Afghan military bases through theater performances in Mazar-i-Sharif and Kabul.

Schick is a committee member at Human Rights Watch . He supports the “My voice for reason” campaign initiated by the SPD in 2016.
