occupation

Once upon a time Indianerland is a German coming-of-age film by İlker Çatak from 2017 . The film is based on the novel of the same name by Nils Mohl , who also wrote the script together with  Max Reinhold .

action

The 17-year-old Mauser is a budding boxer and lives with his father Zöllner and his stepmother Laura in a high-rise estate in a suburb of Hamburg . At an illegal rave party, he falls in love with Jackie, who comes from a wealthy neighborhood. At the same time, however, the 21-year-old candy saleswoman Edda is targeting him. As if Mauser didn't have enough on his mind, his father suddenly murders his stepmother and stands with him to ask for advice.

production

The shooting ran from July 6th to August 19th, 2016 in Hamburg . The director İlker Çatak , for whom Once upon a time Indianerland is making his feature film debut, filmed the screenplay by Nils Mohl and Max Reinhold. The basis, the novel of the same name by Mohl, had already been adapted into a play in 2013. Regarding his motivation for the project, director Çatak said:

“One of the reasons I tackled this film is because it's an unusual and pretty crazy subject. Something like that is very rare. This film has to be like a wild trip. By that I mean not only the physical journey, but also the psychedelic one. You shouldn't want to control them either. "

- İlker Çatak , director

The film was released on October 19, 2017.

criticism

The film received positive reviews from critics. Britta Schmeis from epd Film said in her conclusion: "Shrill music clip, dreamy fairy tale, road movie and coming-of-age story - with his film adaptation of the novel by Nils Mohl, Ilker Çatak has created a genre of its own."

Thomas Vorwerk von Filmstarts awarded three out of five stars and placed the film “somewhere between Tarantino and Trainspotting ”.
