action

Max Hardenberg, head of personnel in a department store in Berlin, is expected at his parents' home in the Allgäu for the Christmas holidays, like every year. Since his girlfriend canceled him by phone, he doesn't dare to come without an attachment. Without further ado, he “persuades” his employee Pauline Bertram, whom he has caught in a petty theft, to accompany him. To make the decision easier for the bona fide Pauline, he claims that his father has a serious heart condition and that it could be his last Christmas that he can experience. Pauline is very impressed when they arrive in the Allgäu and sees the stately property. Ferdinand Hardenberg is equally impressed when he sees his son's handsome new girlfriend. The family also includes Max's mother Marianne, his aunt Margot, sister Johanna with her husband Georg and his younger sister Julia. After a short time, Pauline, with her fresh and natural manner, makes a great impression on the family and one is firmly convinced that both will get married. Only Max Schwager sees the "primacy" of his wife at risk, which he hopes will bring the next heirs to the family. Pauline is not so happy with the new development and would like to leave again. In addition, she is a little uncomfortable that Ferdinand admires her so much that he accompanies her almost everywhere and even goes shopping with her and buys expensive clothes for her. After accompanying Max and her on a ski trip, the exertion for the almost sixty-year-old becomes too much and he suffers a slight heart attack. The whole family is extremely concerned and Max reproaches himself for the fact that he may have been inciting the disease with his allegation to Pauline. He promises Pauline to enlighten the family about their true relationship, but he cannot do that. However, after Max's parents want to give Pauline the family necklace for engagement, she takes the initiative, clears up the family and moves in with Stefan. He is a school friend of Max and had befriended her since Pauline's arrival. Meanwhile, Max realizes that he has fallen in love with Pauline and does not dare to bring her back. But Pauline also realizes that she actually loves Max, but also knows about his indecision. So she is happily surprised when he actually looks for her and brings her back. Together they celebrate a wonderful Christmas with the whole family.
