Eva Sangiorgi (born July 10, 1978 in Faenza , Province of Ravenna ) is an Italian cultural manager and curator . From April 2010 to March 2018 she directed the FICUNAM film festival in Mexico, which she founded. In January 2018 she was appointed artistic director of the Viennale film festival in Vienna .

Life

Eva Sangiorgi grew up in Castel Bolognese and studied communication sciences at the University of Bologna , graduating in 2005. She graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) with a degree in art history in 2017 .

Since 2003 she has worked as a curator and programmer at international festivals in Mexico and Europe. In April 2010 she founded the international film festival FICUNAM ( Festival Internacional de Cine UNAM ) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México , of which she was artistic and commercial director until March 2018. The festival focuses on art-house film and links to contemporary art. As part of her work as curator of the festival, she published works on Artavazd Pelechian's theory of assembly and a monograph on Masao Adachi. She has been a juror at international film festivals since 2012, such as the Festival International du Film Documentaire Marseille (FIDMarseille), Doclisboa and the Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata .

In January 2018 Eva Sangiorgi was presented as artistic director of the Viennale . She succeeded Franz Schwartz, who took over the management of the film festival on an interim basis after the death of Hans Hurch , and was responsible for the 56th Viennale from October 25 to November 8, 2018 for the first time. In September 2019, her contract was extended to March 2026.

In 2018 she was appointed as a jury member of the Semaine internationale de la critique section of the Cannes Film Festival , and in 2019 as a jury member of the Orizzonti section of the 76th Venice International Film Festival .
