Castel Bolognese is a town with 9599 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Ravenna in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna .
It is located between Imola and Faenza on the Via Emilia. Castel Bolognese is dominated by agriculture through the surrounding vineyards and orchards.
It was founded towards the end of the 14th century by the Senate of Bologna as an outpost to defend its own territory. By decree, Pope Pius VI proposed . the city of 1794 to Ravenna. Under Napoléon Bonaparte , Castel Bolognese once again belonged to the province of Bologna for a short time and from 1814 on again to Ravenna for good.
Castel Bolognese has been a partner community of Abtsgmünd , Ostalbkreis , Baden-Württemberg since 2007 .
